I couldn't work out what I was seeing at first but the overlapping blobs you see are not the volcano itself but the craters at its summit. The light makes them look like they're raised but I'm pretty sure they're actually indentations as you can see more clearly here:

This is so cool - it's a moon orbiting above a volcano on Mars! The grey chunk is Phobos - one of Mars's two moon; it's about 14 miles wide and orbits closer to its planet than any other natural satellite we know of. In this pic it's a little under 6000km above extinct volcano 'Ascraeus Mons'.
