A #watercolor #painting from a couple of weeks ago. This study was to learn how to paint the 3rd dimension as my paintings often look flat and also how to paint the reflective elements of metals. Plus I'm a huge #StarWars nerd. #Mandalorian #artsky #BlueSkyArt

An Iris I painted for class. Others in class really liked it but something about this one seems off to me. I might mess with it a little more. #watercolor #artsky #painting #BlueSkyart

Watercolor painting of an Iris in a glass of water. The iris has one full bloom flower on top with other buds ranging from partially opened to completely closed. Colors include various shades of green for the stem and leaves while the buds and petals have violet, blue, and reddish purples.

After expressing my intent on investing in better #watercolor brushes, my art teacher recommended the top two and omg I can't believe how much better these brushes are. I can't wait to start a brand new project and see the difference in quality of a finished piece. Better tools=better results!

Cranes in the mist. #watercolor #artsky #BlueSkyArt I'm so tempted to keep messing with this, like adding a splash of color, but I really like the monochrome look.

Monochromatic watercolor painting of two cranes walking in shallow water among reeds or tall swamp grass. The background is all white (unpainted) representing fog or thick mist. The water has slight indications of ripples that is in slight grey color.

#Watercolor #painting of the Minneapolis Stone Arch bridge. This was supposed to be much warmer in tone & value and at early dusk but the grey paint I mixed ended up super dark (for the first time ever it didn't lighten up at all 🙄). I ended up adjusting for night scene with darker tones & values.

I need to gather 2️⃣5️⃣ $20 donations as quickly as possible. I see my oncologist tomorrow for my next Signatera test to see if my ctDNA has continued to rise these last 6 weeks. If it has, my treatment plan has to shift & I'm a nervous wreck. I need help, so I can worry a little less. Thank you! ❤️

#Watercolor #painting from last night. I'm over the moon on this one. There's a few whoopsies but it was so much fun! I just love old architecture. Huge thank you to @thomaswschaller.bsky.social for your efforts and time in making videos that allow ppl to realize their potential. I'm very grateful 🙏

Watercolor painting of old architecture in Rome. The picture depicts people ascending steps between buildings that lead up to a large archway. This painting is a copy of a Thomas Schaller original that was graciously made during a YouTube video for instructional purposes.

Mashup of #watercolor #art and #musictheory. I'm still working out different layouts and ideas but I'm really liking how this turned out. Still needs some work tho. The scale is for a 6 string guitar and is in E Dorian Mode. >>>>

This picture illustrates the combined scales of E Dorian Mode from the first fret to the twenty second fret in two segments. Below the scale segments is an illustration of the intervals for the scales that describes the scales notes second, flatted third, fourth, etc. Over the top of this illustrations is a watercolor depiction of a blue and purplish colored note with paint streaks that make the now appear to be moving or in motion.

Another postcard #watercolor. It was inspired by a post from someone on BlueSky. I really liked the values and content and wish I would have bookmarked it. Anyway, if anyone recognizes it, thank you for the inspiration! I really enjoyed this one but wish I had painted it on better paper. >>>>>

Watercolor painting on a postcard. The painting is a scenic setting of body of water and shoreline with a distant mountain range in the background, evergreen trees that range from the horizon up the the shoreline. The shoreline has some rocky outcroppings with a small pool of water with smaller rocks in it. The sky is mixed with bright, full sun highlighting clouds moving in. Finally, in the near foreground is a large evergreen tree branch that enters the painting from the right. I'm sorry for those who have to read this as I'm terrible at describing things!

This #watercolor #painting is a study in tonal values, light and shade. What's interesting is that color itself isn't necessarily what defines an object. I found it "unnatural" using blues and violets to paint the elephant and my mind wanted to just stop knowing that they aren't that color at all.

Watercolor painting of an elephant with a forest background. The blue and violet colors represent cooler shades where there is less light and brighter colors showing warmth and more light, with white being the brightest.

Picture of an elephant from a book called Light and Shade in Watercolor by Hazel Soan which was the inspiration for my painting too learn more about tonal values.

I haven't been #painting too much lately due to a lack of time but also painting without any instruction has been revealing how little I know about #watercolor so I've been studying up. I painted a colorboard and swatch and I wish I had done this from the start. It's been fascinating to see>>>>

Watercolor chart with one inch squares painted with a single color. Each color is painted with a gradient from dark (more pigment) at the top to light (less pigment) at the bottom. There are ten total colors ranging from blue, reds, orange, yellows, and green.

I've been learning more about the process that artists take to prep for a #painting. There's a lot more that goes into a painting than I had imagined when I started this journey. So this next project is about practicing the process where I'm identifying light and shade. #Artsky #watercolor

Photo of my desk with watercolor paints, palettes, masking tape, a picture of an elephant from an art book, and my sketch of the elephant with notes about direction of sunlight, where light and shade exists, and colors I might use. The purpose is to plan the painting before starting it.

#Watercolor study of the #moon on a postcard. I learned you can't mix "space" black. Lol. My initial wash was kind of cool and wish I had kept it but I wanted to experiment. I am going to buy black paint and see how it looks. I think the details will pop out. #artsky #painting #astronomy

I just love his painting style and is the reason I decided to take the leap into learning how to paint. The colors, the fading perimeter, and old architecture are things that really appeal to me. I have learned so much from this video and hope other beginners can find it useful as well!

Something I learned recently about #watercolor #painting that might help other beginners. I used a hardboard panel to paint on and my paper would warp horribly. I have recently switched to a foam board and my paper hardly moves now. I think it has to do with the wood pulling the moisture >>>>

Iris WIP. It turns out these irises are called Wild Flag iris and not Siberian iris as I had mentioned earlier. I was corrected by my mom. 🤭 Anyway I've learned a lot about mixing colors. Green grass color and certain shades of purple are really hard to mix. #watercolor #artsky #painting >>>>

Picture of two watercolor paintings of wild flag irises. My first attempt was a copy of a picture I took with high level of detail and various shades of purple, white and gold fur the flower and various shades of green fur the color of the grass in the background. The second painting is the same flower but with a much more simplified background. The second painting is unfinished.

I picked these up today from #TraderJoe's to place my wet #watercolor paint brushes on and a place to remove excess water or paint. But now that I'm looking at these I don't think I'll need paper towels for kitchen cleanups either. Dishwasher safe or toss them in with the laundry.

New goodies from the art store. I'm looking forward to using the porcelain palette as the plastic ones takes two hands, one to hold it in place and one to mix the paint. Still trying to figure out how to make fine, detailed lines. And finally, got some sap green so I can properly paint grass color🤞

Picture of art supplies for watercolor painting. Supplies consist of a rectangular porcelain paint palette with 18 wells and a mixing area, a very fine detailing watercolor brush, a tube of sap green paint, and a fine point color brush used for detailed borders and edges.
