www.researchgate.net/publication/... In studying City Planning, there are many times where you realize widely held positions on how things should happen oversimplify, tokenize, and (perhaps in some cases intentionally weaponize) solutions. Neoliberal YIMBYism, as an ideology, is an example.

So that’s why, in my view, we can’t just deregulate our way out of the problem, mirroring the perspectives shared by the authors of the paper above.

But some of the issue is that bringing this kind of development in pockets that are currently poor (a significant portion are inner city low density neighborhoods, btw!) often serves the interests of not those poor people, but instead pushes them out into other areas and brings wealthy folks in.

Yeah this is good analysis under a market framework, but my main contention is that truly without the decommodification of housing, there are significant barriers to affordability. Realistically, even under generous market frameworks, developers won’t provide this abundant supply of housing needed.

LOL poor baby know-little data-scientist political consultant can't handle one link to an article. Hahahahaha. Go lose another election dummy.
Image showing myself being blocked by Ned Resnikoff, Data Scientist turned consultant-class liberal who can't handle a little disagreement.

Deregulation and density increases can have metro-wide impacts that can slow and (slowly) decrease housing costs, but at the neighborhood scale, often lead to displacement of poorer residents, influxes of capital, and gentrification. We have to be careful and use regulation to do this intelligently.

But upzoning, transit, and in general, urbanist projects, usually increase housing costs in the area. Other interventions are required (such as impact fees, zoning, and housing affordability requirements, on a deeper level, I'm an advocate for red-vienna style social housing, but thats another topic

And also, I wouldn't say I'm a 'left-nimby,' I think the application of smart housing development in areas where it makes sense is appropriate, but just as the scholars point out, regulation can facilitate higher absolute housing production numbers (which, makes a lot of sense if you study this.

Saying a paper by one of the leading researchers in the field of spatial inequality and place-based interventions to spatial inequality is, an interesting take if I'M being generous. Criticizing the model as that article does is tantamount to not understanding the model, author probably doesn't.

xbayse.bsky.social @xbayse.bsky.social · 29/03/2026
Regardless, this supposed takedown just questions the modelling approach, (which is how you do urban spatial economics BTW!) and says they have an unreasonable measure of affordability. Which in itself is a deeply flawed critique, considering, you'd expect that bar to have been reached no?

>Replying with a Roosevelt institute article > Quote from article "They think that a city should only be considered affordable if the median non-college-educated worker can afford the median rent on a one-bedroom apartment. That’s an extraordinarily high standard for affordability" Absurd.

Everyone in this thread ought to read some research before posting. Here's a good start: researchonline.lse.ac.uk/id/eprint/13... Paper finds that generous estimations of supply shocks in urban areas due to regulations does not meaningfully increase affordability.

In the same way that carbrain exists neolib brain exists too and this is a shining example. Its okay to call free transit misguided but to say that it somehow 'justifies carbrain' when you're talking about a city where only 22% of people own cars (and most of that 22% voted anti zoran) is wild lol.

To begin to slowly and painfully chip away at it with small small less meaningful things that ultimately were not enough to make a real difference in people’s everyday experience and so be lost? Yeah I remember it that way.

There’s certainly a conversation to be had about how digital neo-feudalist capitalism motivate these sorts of things, but I also believe that Ryan hall puts out more positives into the world than negatives. Esp. Considering his multiple volunteer disaster relief warehouses across the country.

To me, it just shows what I think is Ryan’s motivation, which is to warn people in advance of severe weather that might affect them. I think that, yeah, he clickbaits (not as bad as others!), but it seems to me that it’s motivated by a desire to help others.

I understand you’re feeling on the Ryan Hall stuff, but you didn’t mention that Ryan never issues the ‘yall watches’ and has his meteorologist do so. I watched a bit of his stream on the events this past week and nearly every yall watch became a Tor Warning nearly every time.

Yeah there’s like plenty of scientific literature proving that violence in video games don’t cause violence in real life. This is not a good article. The premise is severely misguided.

Essentially, the states together = the United States but the turtles together =\= the movie.
010
xbayse.bsky.social @xbayse.bsky.social · 03/03/2025
In this case though, the turtles themselves would never be referred to in reference to the movie. The union of states known as the United States is a singular but you could say the states are x in exactly the same way as you could refer to the whole. But you couldn’t with the TMNT.

(Not to mention that the steam deck demolished any windows based handheld by a long shot and was so good that some of those handhelds are now switching to SteamOS (an arch based Linux distro) the truth is that most people use what comes with the device.

At least Linux has an interest in making their software good for the consumer in order to attract users. The virtual monopoly windows has allows them to just do whatever. It’s cool if you don’t want to use it but like, come on. One of the best selling handhelds uses Linux. You’re just wrong 🤷‍♀️

What’s your deal anyways why do you feel the need to shit so hard on an open source piece of software that accomplishes a good majority of people’s needs with not too much effort. Why do you feel the need to bow down to Microsoft, who only intend to make a profit off of you.

Brother, geico has Linux developers on staff.

xbayse.bsky.social @xbayse.bsky.social · 23/02/2025
The thing is too that it’s not that much effort. Linux distros are what you want out of them. Linux will allow you to do as much or as little as you want. Like, try telling me windows is easy when I want to remove start menu or literally change a keybind. Dual booting is an option as well
000
xbayse.bsky.social @xbayse.bsky.social · 23/02/2025
This exactly. Most of the time you don’t need to use the command line. Really, a lot of Linux tutorials use it because they’re Linux users and once you start to understand the command line it becomes very rewarding to just cd and nano (vim, eMacs) into text files.
000
xbayse.bsky.social @xbayse.bsky.social · 23/02/2025
Okay but with most linux distros tbf there are a lot of safeguards around installation. If you use a package manager to install discord you’re never going to install a fake version that has a trojan like you can windows. (There’s winget on windows too but who uses that apart from me)
000
xbayse.bsky.social @xbayse.bsky.social · 23/02/2025
This is kinda where ppl misunderstand. Installing operating systems is beyond the average user. If you can do that, you can probably use Linux. It’s not that hard, lol.

Hahah what you’re so ill informed if you think it has no business as a business OS considering its like, primary use is business. Like Linux runs 80% of servers or smth. Msft even funds Linux because they find it too useful to kill (although the tried that in the past).

And saying that we need a ‘strong southern border’ and the ‘strongest military on earth’ and ‘Israel has a right to defend itself’ wasn’t? Like come on now. Kamala lost for those reasons. The original tweet is so right and bsky libs are so dense they’ll repeat 2016 1000x and this will keep happening

That’s not why Kamala lost idiot. Instead of being angry at progressives be angry at the democrats who thought campaigning on bona fide right wing talking points with Liz Cheney was a good idea. Especially when progressive policy polled way better. Blame her for continuing genocide, as well.

I don’t necessarily think banning social media for youth it a bad idea. Ideologically motivated it feels like an attempt to make children less educated about left wing stuff but most algorithms are biased towards the right anyways. I support it, I guess. Social media is horrible for your brain.
