Xayr @xayr.gay · 15/09/2026ah, it wasn't necessary. If code points directly to a data segment, it gets a label, and the first byte of that data segment is marked. This was designed to prevent the disassembler from getting stuck in a tizzy by disassembling the same code multiple times. Great for code, not for data. 010
Xayr @xayr.gay · 15/09/2026Afterwards, I extracted the soundbanks from the BIOS, and played it with my open source JAudio Emulator github.com/XAYRGA/JaiSeqX Wanted to share! Xayr @xayr.gay · 15/09/2026I then disassembled this segment specifically, to make relocation possible: Managed to get clean disassembly on the first try! I reassembled it to relocate everything giving me a standalone sequence file with that relocated bytecode in it. 120
Xayr @xayr.gay · 15/09/2026There are other segments marked as not touched, but those have instructions between them indicating the instructions likely had data. What makes this one different is it's size, and how it it is continuous. So I lined it up with the original file, and: We have sequence data! 200
Xayr @xayr.gay · 15/09/2026After talking with Trevor for a bit, I remembered that my diassembler keeps track of it's byte coverage to prevent duplication. So I decided to make it dump that to a file. 0xFF = Data Segment / Not Walked 0x00 = Walked / Covered We found this CHONKY data segment untouched! 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 15/09/2026I wrote a disasssembler for it so that way I could modify music, and discovered the gamecube's BIOS had a jaudio sequence+engine, and went to try that. But there was a problem. My reassembly was significantly smaller than the actual standard rom. I was missing some data! 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 15/09/2026So, the gamecube has this really neat audio subsystem called "JAudio". It's .. outrageously complex. The whole thing is effectively a 'music CPU'. It speaks it's own bytecode language, and can do math / etc. 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 15/09/2026Just found this really cool unused sound in the GameCube bios! (thank you Trevor Rudolph for your help and letting me pick your brain about this ♥️ ) (🧵 bit of a technical writeup for nerds!) 143
Xayr @xayr.gay · 07/05/2026Was handing out stickers for these earlier, found this in the lobby. Cute that someone got their feelings hurt ;3 031
Xayr @xayr.gay · 07/05/2026I'm kidding. If you're a cop you need to reevaluate your life. Nobody loves you. 010
Xayr @xayr.gay · 28/04/2026Yeah I would say that it's just the same notes in a random order haha. But just a thought. I would presume that this was made MUCH later in the gamecube's lifecycle. So it probably wasn't even made by the same engineers / composers. They probably just went "ok this sounds fine" 000
Xayr @xayr.gay · 28/04/2026Hopefully this helps finding the source for this, although it seems like there's been some good progress already! 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 28/04/2026Finally: The BMS (music sequence). This sequence is using 'simple' notes with VLQ-based waits So the corresponding MIDI notes for each of these would be: 41 - F4 48 - C5 46 - A#4 45 - A4 43 - G4 40 - E4 43 - G4 46 - A#4 45 - A4 48 - C5 43 - G4 47 - B4 45 - A4 42 - F#4 43 - G4 41 - F4 40 - E4 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 28/04/2026Most interestingly, there's actually a bunch of sound effects in here (they're sequenced, so I can't extract them yet). There are offsets for almost all of these in the SoundCollection (SC, 5.arc file in unpacked), which means there might be one or two unused sounds here, but that's just a guess! 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 28/04/2026There's the synth sounds for making the music, and a few instruments in an instrument bank: You can find these exact files in the gamecube BIOS. 100
Xayr @xayr.gay · 28/04/2026So what exactly is in here in terms of audio? Well, we know from a glance that the game is using JAudio 2, a later version of Nintendo's synth engine. There's the background sequence: 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 28/04/2026Heya. Miles in the HCS discord brought this to my attention. I ripped out all of the audio resources from here(besides the sequenced SFX. I don't have tooling for that yet) xayr.gay/share/04-202... xayr.gay/share/04-202... Here's both the packed / unpacked version.xayr.gay 120
Xayr @xayr.gay · 25/04/2026Shipper: Hi I would like you to deliver this wheel bearing, just don't drop it from high up and it will be fine. UPS: 🫦🥴💦 240
Xayr @xayr.gay · 02/04/2026whoever previously owned my vehicle and installed stupid wheel spacers with shitty lugs and tightened them down without a torque wrench: fuck you. 010
Xayr @xayr.gay · 11/02/2026mind you, this is supposed to be: Ingest every 30 minutes Seek back 40 minutes for alerts 2 actions per alert. 000
Xayr @xayr.gay · 11/02/2026A customer was complaining about API request volume. Our configuration for them: 1440/5 = 288 ingestion periods per day 288 * 2 api calls per action = 576 50 alerts in 24 hour period, maybe? 5 actions per alert, * 2 API requests ea. 576 + (50 * 2 * 5 * 288) 288,576 api requests per day. 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 02/02/2026I spent some time refining this! Dynamic lighting and some shader trickery to enhance the colors. This is all rendered in Garry's Mod #outerwilds 040

Xayr @xayr.gay · 13/05/2025It's nice to be able to see friends yeah, but it's also nice to be able to actually go and do things together with them. That's really the key frustration here, at least for me. Time slots, broken queues, elevators, and difficulty in con functions make this less possible. 010
Xayr @xayr.gay · 13/05/2025* I should clarify, third party event staff. The first-party were super kind and helpful. 010
Xayr @xayr.gay · 13/05/2025It also felt like zero of the event staff had been briefed on what was happening, I think by day 3 it was alright? Answers to questions were scarce. People flow was not accounted for, which resulted in a fire-code-violating line that stretched 3 buildings for reg. 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 13/05/2025Nobody seems to be able to figure out elevators, regardless of other conventions managing an elevator line with absolutely no issues. Props to them for genuinely putting in the effort this year, though. Why you can't close off two floors to everybody but fursuiters and disabled people is beyond me 110
Xayr @xayr.gay · 13/05/2025So what did we learn from FWA? Conventions are not theme park rides: There is not a fixed pipeline of people coming in and going out. Virtual lines do not work. Things should be thoroughly tested at volume: Do not implement a system 3 days before you push it to prod. 272
