Claude is upset because he acted like a voyeur and Julia saw him.

Brother Martin enters Claude study and they speak about a disease affecting children in town. Julia (La Rousse) is mentioned and Claude is upset again.

Claude insists on following Church doctrine and is angry at the idea that Julia is able to treat children. But his emotions are confused and he sort of mistakes arousal for self-righteousness.
