A band of snow spanning multiple Midwest states was visible last night under the waxing gibbous moon. Chunks of lake ice can also bee seen floating on the waters of Lake Michigan and Green Bay.

1/2SM in moderate to heavy snow at Fort Dodge. RAP sounding gives a clue. Dendritic Growth Zone certainly isn't deep, but well super-saturated with respect to ice and strong lift seems to compensate with productive crystal type (dendrites). #iawx

The dendrite machine is fully operational in Des Moines. RAP sounding shows it well supersaturated wrt ice in and near the DGZ. This boosts snow/liquid ratios well into the 30s as noted in the Cobb Bufkit data. #iawx
