A Thursday night pizza at Working Man's Kitchen is always great - good food, seeing friends, and having a nice beer at Neon Raptor - but tonight was extra special, as I got to share some ceremonial Sake with Paddy in honour of my birthday + I got to sign the bottle, as is tradition 🥂
Jamie and Paddy "cheers"ing their glasses of sake. The sake is unfortunately blocked by Jamie, facing away from the camera, who is wearing a very nice and warm overshirt on top of a t-shirt that's not pictured but is really quite nice and you should be sad you can't see it, and Paddy is looking at Jamie, friendly as always

#Cookie is not particularly happy she's now wearing the donut of shame (not pictured) but she's been very brave this morning at the vets after hurting her dew claw and needing to have it removed
Cookie the dog in the vet's office, smiling up at Anna (not pictured) and looking very brave. She's got a purple bandage over her right paw, covering where her dew claw was removed, as it'd bent at a very precarious angle. Although it looks like she's looking up at Anna happily, she actually is watching Anna look at the removed dew claw, and Cookie thinks it's a treat for her. But she's still very loving and brave and happy considering. We're very proud of her, especially as she doesn't like her paws being touched at the best of times

Why, yes I am having to spend my Sunday morning looking into reducing the impact of bot scraping on my website after a significantly large AWS bill, why do you ask?
A screenshot of the 'Cost and usage graph' in the AWS billing dashboard, showing May-September's bills of ~$25, and then October's being ~$150. The majority of it, not labelled, is CloudFront traffic usage, which appears to be ~1.3TB of usage over the last month, over what's available in the free tier

A couple of weeks ago I was at the Manchester Gophers, giving them a sneak peek of my tutorial I'm doing on Friday at #GopherConUK, and I had a blast - was a great time with some great people, and always a fan of sharing more about #DependencyManagementData Their […] [Original post on jvt.me]
A "Funko Pop" style collectible, custom made by the Manchester Gophers organisers for Jamie Tanna. It's marked as "05", as the 5th (or is it 0-indexed and therefore 6th?) speaker. It's marked for Jamie Tanna (me!) for speaking in July 2025. Most importantly, it's an "Apex Gopher", with Go's Gopher mascot being positioned in the game of Apex Legends, which I play a lot, and is styled as the legend Caustic, with a little gas canister, and the R301, my favourite weapon. Organisers of the Manchester spent a tonne of time reading through years of Week Notes to perfect the gift, which is hugely awesome, inventive and super cool. It sits atop my desk in this photo, but it's usually in my office background.

Got a super cool LEGO set, Tranquil Garden, for Christmas this year, which in of itself is an absolutely _gorgeous_ set but then on top of that, also got a lighting set which makes it much more magical
A beautiful LEGO set, depicting a Japanese garden, with tea room, stream with koi carp, cherry blossoms, and a beautiful, relaxing garden and scene which was surprisingly relaxing to build. Making that even more amazing, the LEGO set is modified with a lighting set, so the cherry blossoms glow pink, the tea room is lit up, lanterns on the water are glowing a warm orange, and it provides a further three dimensional feel for the gorgeous set

I'm very excited to announce that I'll be speaking at #StateOfOpenCon in February! I'll be giving a new talk, _I inherited this project, and all I got was all these angry users_ , in particular talking about my experience with maintaining `oapi-codegen` and some […] [Original post on jvt.me]

Alas, #SpotifyWrapped is out and is interesting! Did not expect Grafix as my top listen, but given the top songs of 2024 for me, it makes sense! I'll be more interested to see what happens when I get my Spotify data dump at the end of the year and dig into it as I […] [Original post on jvt.me]
The Spotify Wrapped graphic, showing at the top a graphic of the artist Grafix. Below, my top 5 artists are shown: Grafix, Fred V, Phaeleh, Tycho and Koven. I listened to 73,830 minutes of music, and my top songs were: Paradise - Akacia + HYLO, Circles - Yoe Mase (which interestingly I only came across a month of so ago), Blow the Roof - Louis the Child, Kasbo & EVAN GIIA, Miss a Moment - Grafix & Elipsa, and Falling - Cyantific

This is fun - it looks like I've had an #LLM / #AI tool hallucinate a blog post on my site 🤔
A screenshot of the Matomo analytics app, showing a hit from the `poe.com` AI app, pointing to a blog post that doesn't exist, which is rightfully returning a 404

Why yes, on Wednesday I _was_ presenting a very high-profile meeting at work - why do you ask? (Sorry that FitBit doesn't make it easier to export a graph more nicely)
A screenshot of Jamie's FitBit app, showing the heartrate for a ~90 minute period of time, leading up to the meeting.

The first heartrate spike is at 1450 (up to 114bpm), immediately before the meeting, and as I'm preparing myself with a final runthrough and check that everything's ready.

It relaxes down to 92bpm while other parts of the meeting are going on, a quick spike up to 110bpm as it's noted that I'm going to be presenting later.

A few minutes before I talk - at 1530 - my heartrate drops down to 84bpm (as I'm mentally playing "Moving On - Phaeleh") and then spikes to 107bpm as I start to speak at 1540.

Why yes, #DependencyManagementData now has stickers 👀
A packet of ~30 stickers from Sticker App, showing the Dependency Management Data UFO and text, which look pretty cool and you definitely want one

So I guess #Mcdonalds is going to be bringing the McRib back in October, based on this test notification? 👀

Got myself a very cute and cool Gopher plushie at #GopherConUK today, and been having an interesting day so far 🤓
