Dammit! BlueSky has adopted one of my most hated features from Facebook: automatically reloading and returning to the top of the feed every time you return to the app from another app. Often, I’ve opened an external link and want to return to where I left off. You have an arrow button to go there!

Credit where credit is due: the bagger race at Mugello was a pretty good race. And The Maniac is still a maniac.

People say Dorna/MSEG neglect WorldSBK, but they've finally, years late, released an update to the WorldSBK app that, at first glance, appears to bring it to parity with the MotoGP app! Still no AppleTV app, though. #WorldSBK #MotoGP

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again. www.nature.com/immersive/d4...
This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.

Kinda funny. Idemitsu stopped sponsoring the ride (before or after the decision not to put a Honda Team Asia rider on the bike?). But Pro Honda is Honda's oil and chemicals line, and guess who makes them! Yep, Idemitsu! But who's putting up the sponsorship money? #MotoGP

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque: "This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".
Bronze plaque saying "A Letter to the Future. Ok is the first Icelandic glacier to lose its status as a glacier. In the next 200 years all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path. This monument is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it. August 2019. 415ppm CO2"

This is absolutely nuts. Trump has scheduled a military "parade" to counter this weekend's No Kings protests, and it involves Navy ships firing live missiles onto Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. This requires closure of I-5, which runs ~N-S to the west of Pendleton, close to the shoreline.

A weird thought to have about them after Alex Márquez beat Marc Marquez, but I'm reminded of what Indy Car racer Al Unser, Jr., said near the start of his career, about learning from his multi-champion father: "My dad taught me everything I know. But he didn't teach me everything HE knows." #MotoGP

Every European state that tries to convince Ukraine that they should accept a security guarantee that falls short of NATO and relies on the world of Donald Trump--should be required to leave NATO and take the exact same "guarantee". We can then see how much worth it really has.

1. This week, the FBI released its comprehensive crime report for 2024, which revealed that both VIOLENT CRIME and PROPERTY CRIME reached their LOWEST LEVELS SINCE THE 1960s This a massive story. But you might not have heard about it, even if you follow the news closely. Here's why.
popular.info
Why you might not know that 2024 was America's safest year since the 1960s
An overwhelming majority of Americans, 64 percent, believe that crime increased across the country in 2024, according to a Gallup survey conducted late last year.

The NIH’s 2024 budget of just under $37B generated $95B in economic activity in 2024 alone. 99.4% of new pharmaceuticals approved from 2010-2019 came from NIH-funded research. I’m hard pressed to think of anything that generates as much direct economic benefit as our NIH did before they destroyed it
