It's because people didn't understand the question (designed that way on purpose). This has happened here for YEARS. Not saying people shouldn't be doing their own research, but plenty of people thought that question was just "should we guarantee you need an ID to vote"

Elon acquired debt to buy Twitter and used Tesla shares as collateral. With the drop in Tesla shares price, his debtors might do a margin call. So, I'm guessing he's just using xAI investor money to pay his Twitter debt to protect his Tesla shares.
