Things are not ok. There's not a lot we can do as a random small press in Canada, but at the very least, gatekeeping books is not something we want to continue. I've decided now until forever, all our digital chapbooks are $0/pay-what-you-can. Sending love & lit <3
now - forever

We need to talk about Spite. Let us know which of these three stories might draw you in (or haunt you) the hardest. & if you're brave, preorder: wrongpublishing.com
"French Turn"

In New York in the late seventies, Celeste and Arthur are having an affair.

Set against the backdrop of their self-involved partners and wealthy, claustrophobic circle of friends, "French Turn" is a response to F. Scott Fitzgerald's early piece "The Popular Girl." The story is set after the sexual revolution and considers queer carnal impulses absent from Fitzgerald's conversation about self-inflicted tragedies of the upper class."Saint Jane"

Jane’s boyfriend has died young in a horrible accident. She’s moved to North Carolina to live with her maiden aunt. She’s also started hallucinating about a slender ghoul that balances on the edge of her desk: Sybil, her childhood friend, who’s grown impossibly tall and is still wearing her old school uniform. Sybil lurks around the house and asks Jane insensitive questions about why her life has come to a sudden halt."The Wizard"

An immortal wizard with crippling depression and the power to tell the future lives in Akron, Ohio. His help is sought by a woman named Sara, who’s unaware that her own mother and grandmother have both visited him with the same problem.

The good news is that preorders are open today for SPITE, the new fantastical fiction collection by Anjeli Chapman Wolf. The bad news is this will be the last ever title from our press. For my health, I have to step back, but this is a fantastic closer. Enjoy it all the more- t.co/PxLZJvOKeV

Mary Mandeville, "Blooming is Just a Promise" from WHAT LASTS

What I didn’t notice as quickly was the way my heart stretched and grew. The way I faced challenges with an expanding sense of calm. I grew roots so deep and strong no wind could blow me down. Not a detective calling to tell me about my son’s multiple felonies, not his commitment to residential treatment, not even the dark-eye-circle insanity that enveloped him at age nineteen.

What happens when human remains are objectified, when they are assigned serial numbers in a catalog and placed into storage? Happy book birthday to Kate Pashby's A SHELF OF MY ANCESTORS, available now in both print & digital formats: wrongpublishing.com
a shelf of my ancestors by Kate Pashby"a shelf of my ancestors is frustrating and beautiful in all the right ways. Part One has us caught up in bureaucracy and legends and letters and semantics. Part Two speaks of defiance, allegory, ancestorial point of view and hope. Simply excellent work by Kate Pashby. Just marvellous."

— Daniel Poitras, Edmonton poet

"To read a shelf of my ancestors is to share in an archivist’s rage. To witness real people reduced to specimens as a gentle and clinical poet pulls you further into a spiraling history. Pashby’s strong voice, historian’s heart, and aching storytelling make this chapbook a vital part of the narrative."

— Kit E Lascher, Editor-in-Chief of Trash Wonderland Magazine

"a shelf of my ancestors is an emotionally resonant collection of poems with an electric voice that explores colonization as a living practice, one that commodifies even the bones of the ancestors."

— Audrey T. Carroll, author of In My Next Queer Life, I Want to Be

It's out! Here's @nikonamerica.bsky.social's Editors Note—telling you why you should go and get a copy of our super spooky anthology right fucking now. Also, it's for a really great charity. www.wrongpublishing.com/store/p124/w...
I’m petrified of taking a wrong turn. Where it could lead, who could be stalking the shadows, the discoveries to be found there. There’s nothing more intriguing than a self-fulfilling prophecy: down the road less traveled is from where your end stems, but who can resist finding out what patiently lurks in the belly of a mistake?

These pieces are some of what you might find in there. They don’t apologize for the darkness they uncover, they simply bring it to life. In this way, they become somewhat of a street lamp guiding us down that road less traveled—but quickly you will discover that they, in all their malignance, mean to leave us stranded where no one will find us, to unearth what it means to be taken victim to circumstance, fate, and pure evil.

I hope you love them, these sinister sets of words, as much as I do.

"He remembers less and less of his life before the body." — @flameswallower.bsky.social's "Recovery", the final story in TRAVELER'S TALES. Hurry & pick up your print or digital copy on our website (or else): wrongpublishing.com
He remembers less and less of his life before the body, no matter how hard he tries. What he does remember won’t fit easily into words or is beyond words entirely. Maybe that’s why it’s slipping away from him.

But Creighton remembers enough to know that what Zeb tells him about “the aliens” is nonsense. His people don’t have heads and arms and legs the same way Zeb’s people do. They don’t have two forward-facing cameras and wet mouths full of bone.

We blended together, he and I. Sometimes there’s resistance. Sometimes the migrant soul overwhelms the current inhabitant completely. But sometimes there’s cohesion: the sun disappeared, the moon sickled above satellites and airplanes and I could not quite say what was always Benjamin Reyes and what was new. I had been in this parking lot many times. I had never seen it before.
