Book 01 / 70 📚 Once on a Time by A. A. Milne — 3.5 stars ✨ January 01st to January 03rd 🗓️
Book cover of Once on a Time by A. A. Milne.

A dark blue background showing an orange rabbit with a darker orange lion mane standing on two legs alongside a sitting princess with brunette hair & a dress made up of dark blue, red, yellow & green. There is a castle made up of pink & orange bricks in the background. There are different flowers across the cover.

The scale of the different icons on the cover are totally wrong; for example, the rabbit is the largest thing on the cover & the flowers are human-sized. The drawings are imperfect, likely meant to look like a child’s drawing.

My brand new blog banner has been revealed on my Instagram & Threads accounts — head over there to find out more about the banner itself & when my site will be back online! 🐾
My new blog banner. The background is a dark green with white writing & a paw print logo, where three Ws are placed to look like the claws of the paw. The writing says Writing with Wolves.

The illustration shows a ginger girl sat at a desk with two Alaskan malamutes next to her — one is black & white & the other is grey & white, with striking blue eyes. There are two shelves behind her, one with books & the other with plants — there is bunting with the LGBT+ flag & the disability pride flag. On the wall are embroidery hoops; one shows a castle & the other shows the moon & stars. On one shelf is a teeny tiny Thirteenth Doctor (who is adorable).

On the desk are lots of items; pens in a pot, a mini TARDIS, sweets, a mug with Holby City written on it, medication bottles, a laptop, a notebook & a small pile of books with a pair of glasses on top. On the laptop are the blog logo & stickers of nail varnish bottles & swimming items. There’s a blue walking stick leaning against the desk.

I’ve decided that my first move to showing off my blog’s new look is updating my photo on here with the site icon, featuring my fresh logo. Still unsure when to relaunch but the site looks so much cleaner than before with the new logo & banner. And the banner has so much of my personality in it 🐾
A round icon that is dark green & gets lighter toward the centre. There is a white single-line drawing of a law print; on top of the toes are three Ws which are positioned to appear like claws. The circle has a white edge.

#TodayImReading The Spice Garden by @prashanthsrivatsa.bsky.social — I started it a few days ago but I’ve been too tired to sit down & read properly so I’m hoping to get really into it tonight ✨ #currentlyreading #amreading #booksky
A photo of a book on a turquoise blanket, with a small blue bowl full of gummy bear sweets. The book is The Spice Gate by Prashanth Srivatsa & at the top of the book it says, “how far would you go to find home?” The cover art shows a stone arch, lit with orange light from within & a purple sky behind. There are sacks of spices on the left side of the arch & a long, small axe on the right. There also appears to be a skull amongst some leaves. The red tassel from my bookmark can be seen.

06. Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire - 5 stars 🌟 I absolutely loved this book & it's my favourite out of the quartet; Lir was a brilliant protagonist & I had no choice but to read into the early hours every night ✨ Find my #bookreview here 👉🏻 www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
The book cover of Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire - the cover is a dark, witchy green with spindly trees on each side of the cover. In the middle of the cover is the shadow of a castle on a hill, with a full moon behind it. There are flying animals (monkeys?!) flying in front of the moon above the castle.

At the bottom of the cover it says, "The next generation of Wicked this way comes".

05. Doctor Who: Eden Rebellion by Abi Falase - 4 stars 🌟 I loved both the Doctor & Ruby in this novel - Abi did a really great job of translating them onto the page & the plot was pretty exciting too ✨ Find my teeny #bookreview here 👉🏻 www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
The book cover for Doctor Who: Eden Rebellion by Abi Falase. The cover is bright & shows the Fifteenth Doctor & companion Ruby Sunday, with screaming creatures behind them.

04. The Violence by Delilah S. Dawson - 5 stars 🌟 My fourth read of the year but still one of my absolute favourites! Delilah's writing is so enthralling & leaves my brain working overtime. I cannot recommend this book enough. Find my short #bookreview here 👉🏻 www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
The cover of The Violence by Delilah S. Dawson - the "i" in Violence is an upside down kitchen knife. There is a woman on the red cover drawn with a single black line that varies in thickness. There are several quotes from other writers on the cover, promoting the book. "The Violence could not be more of-the-moment" from Alma Katsu; "An edge-of-your-seat thriller packed with horror and hope" from Christina Dalcher; "Delilah Dawson might have written the novel that defines this era" from Stephen Graham Jones (I agree with all three).

03. I'll Never Call Him Dad Again by Caroline Darian - 5 stars 🌟 Written by the daughter of Gisèle Pelicot about their family's trauma - it's impossible to say anything about this book in one short post. Find my #bookreview here 👉🏻 www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
The book cover for I'll Never Call Him Dad Again: Turning Our Family Trauma of Sexual Assault and Chemical Submission into a Collective Fight by Caroline Darian. From the daughter of Gisele Pelicot. The cover is very basic, with a black background & writing in white & yellow.

02. Wicked by Gregory Maguire - 3.5 stars 🌟 This was such a bizarre read, but one I could not put down. The book explores so much about human nature & I think I'll only fully appreciate it all with a second read. Find my #bookreview here 👉🏻https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/7205331514
The book cover of Wicked by Gregory Maguire - this cover is the movie poster edition (don't judge me, I borrowed it from the library & my own copy is one of the originals). The left half of the cover is made up of pink shades for Glinda, whilst the right is green for Elphaba. They are reaching out to one another & you can see the city of Oz in the distance.

01. The Whispering Muse by Laura Purcell - 4.5 stars 🌟 A story that pulled me out of a book hangover, grabbing me & holding on to me tight until the end - half a star lost for no epilogue 😢 Find my #bookreview here 👉🏻 www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
The book cover of The Whispering Muse by Laura Purcell. Two quotes are shown, "spooky, atmospheric, brilliant" from Bridget Collins & "glitteringly dark and mesmerising" from Jennifer Saint. The cover is black with white flowers all over it, the title is in red & the author's name is in white.

Quote with your top four favourite reads of the year so far 📚 The Violence by @delilahsdawson.bsky.social Sociopath: A Memoir by Patric Gagne 🎧 All the Colours of the Dark by Chris Whitaker The Penguin Book of Dragons collated/edited by Scott G. Bruce. All very different but bloody brilliant ✨
The Violence by Delilah S. Dawson

The cover is red with a single line drawing showing a woman’s face & shoulders. The “I” in Violence is a knife. There are quotes on the cover, praising the book. An audiobook cover of the book Sociopath: A Memoir by Patric Gagne. The cover is a photo of Patric as a young girl — around 9- or 10-years-old, maybe — she has a dress with a high collar on. The title & author are written in a neon green whilst “a memoir” is in black capitals & underlined. Patric looks unamused by her photo being taken. All the Colours of the Dark by Chris Whitaker. It shows a lake with trees in the distance; the trees & lake have been edited to show a variety of colours. There are some quotes praising the book. The Penguin Book of Dragons; a Penguin Classics book matching the usual style for the collection. The dragon looks like a water painting.

This is a cropped screenshot of the celebratory pop up from GoodReads that you get when finishing your yearly challenge.

The background is purple & there is a red banner going diagonally across the top left hand corner. There is a basic, white open book in the centre with 2024 written across the top & READING CHALLENGE written underneath the book.
