This year for Banned Books Week, I teamed up w @taradairman.bsky.social & Kellye Crocker, my co-leaders of the Colorado chapter of AABB, to showcase some of what we've been up to in Colorado this year, as well as why everyone should be thinking about banned books and some next steps for our state.

More books I inhaled in one sitting: IF NOT FOR MY BABY by Kate Golden (aka the Hoziermance) coming out this August. I curled up in bed early last night to read and then suddenly it was 2am and I had reached the end because I could not stop. Romance fans, keep an eye out for this one this summer! 📚

Not sure how to write a letter of support? That's okay—here's an example! It can be as simple or elaborate as you want it to be, and clicking send doesn't have to feel scary. Remember, numbers matter here, so what's important is that you're sending it at all! (4/4) Thank you!
An example letter to send to a senator:

Dear Senator [name],
My name is [insert name]. I’m a Colorado resident and the author/illustrator of [briefly describe your books]. I’m writing to show my support for SB25-063, and to urge you to stand up for the right to read in our state.

The freedom to read is very important to me. [Insert a relevant anecdote or reason why protecting school libraries and standing up against book bans is so important to you personally. This can be a few sentences or even a few short paragraphs long. You’re a writer—feel free to get creative!].

I am proud to be a Coloradan, and I hope you will support SB25-063 so our state can join the many others that have passed “right to read” legislation.

Thank you,
[your name]

My goal for 2025 is to enjoy every step of my debut year but WOW am I glad January is over. Here's a little snapshot of what I got up to this month with my writing, reading, and other creative pursuits. What did you get up to in January? What are you looking forward to in February?
A black notebook image with the title "diary of a debut author for January 2025"

On the top right the text says
"This month, I:
- started drafing book 2
- got my copy edited manuscript back and have officially reached the "oh god i have read this book so so many times" phase
- Got to see the sample interior design for the forst time (I got emotional seeing my name at the top of the pages)"

On the top left is a collage of 10 book covers I read in January

Beneath, it says, "I am determined to enjoy every step fo the debut process without wishing any of it away—but also January felt like it lasted for a thousand years and I'm not sad that it's ending. Something I'm working on this year is finding non-writing creative outlets for myself. One way I've started to do that is by taking a pottery class!"

On the bottom right of the image are two photos of clay pots with the caption "I made these!"
