Computational photography is an amazing achievement, but there is no Moore's Law on glass, you'll get a better image with a camera with good lenses. The question is, is it good enough for your purposes? Mostly yes, except in very low light conditions, The best camera is always the camera you have.

To be clear, are you advocating for fixing Medicare first? Do you understand people on Medicare pay a premium every month for coverage, it's deducted from your Social Security check, $202 a month so it's not what you think it is. These premiums are one of Reagan's nastier attacks on the middle class

It's a mystery why the Times, or any paper, would tolerate it. They would not have the access they have unless they worked for the Times, essentially they are using the Times as a platform to make bucks for themselves.

Local TV leads its Iran coverage by saying the "deal" includes "reopening" the Strait of Hormuz, but then adds that Iran will manage the Strait and charge fees. So, the Strait is *less* accessible than before the war. Media outlets don't need to accept the administration's framing of this ceasefire.

I'm expecting a wheelbarrow-full of pardons for insider trading on January 19, 2029. Note that the prospect of those pardons helps to keep subordinates in line. Corrupt-cop style, make sure that lots of people get a little taste, then make clear that the pardon depends on continued loyalty.

We've been using search engines since Alta Vista 30 years ago & yet until recently we didn't have these problems. Those were automated cataloguing systems, but it seems the problem with both LLMs & AI is they just do statistical pattern matching & averaging, a very limited thing. My take, anyway!

So true, even using AI for research is dangerous because you can't know if it's hallucinating the data, and the only way to be sure is to double check everything, in which case, why bother? You might as well do the research yourself. AI's destiny is to make videos of cats playing banjos.

Quite true, and it's done in other countries, for instance in Germany there are labor representatives on corporate boards. That's one reason Germany didn't go so far in oursourcing jobs to China.
