Just as well academics have popular podcasts they can go on, given the ongoing destruction of culture at the BBC.

I got an AtoW grant and it was a really tough process. Don't know what's up with the Times...someone has beef.

Charming. Our home is rural and it came with oil. We can't afford to upgrade to an air pump, even with the rural homes grant. Many are in the same position. Perhaps try and not be so judgy?

Great example of what 25 years of mismanagement will do to institutions.

We’ve been talking about this for years. None of these far-right movements are organic.

If you aren't a member then I don't know why I'm talking to you. You have no stake in the GP's success.

The Greens have never worked on the basis of a failure leads to stepping down. The narrative 'it's all over' is just weird. They aren't the Tories or Labour.

DebT @writergeek.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
So you pass a motion that is firmly in the camp of bad faith. Of course, no idea if you are a member of the GP like I am no perhaps it's nothing to you to see a progressive party fail. But this block headed attitude of refusing to see errors is not a good look anonymous person.

DebT @writergeek.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Surprising then that the Greens fell into that trap by allowing this motion to pass.

DebT @writergeek.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
You can say it's 100% a smear campaign if you like, and yes we are seeing that, but the motion is also terrible, ignorant, presumptuous and an awful own goal.

Losing is less significant imo for Polanski (it is the Greens after all) than the more principled issue of the Zionism vote. I say this as a GP member.

DebT @writergeek.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I have had no response to my complaint about the motion, or even an acknowledgement that I sent it. Something very bad is afoot if Lucas is suggesting there may be questions over Polanski's leadership.

Quite. I do worry about sending my DD to university. It costs a lot and if RG unis are going to pack students in more densely, what is the quality of that education going to be?

They could strike it down for failing to inform GP members adequately that it was coming up and that they could register remotely to vote at the conference.

Also, Zionism is complex and has meant different things throughout history, so the definition is pretty simplistic. I'm a GP member and I'm pretty shocked at this motion, which I've just read (and only heard about in the last day). I also can't recall being invited to register remotely to vote...

Perhaps the uncompromising view is driven by trauma at all we have witnessed in the region. But I don't think this motion helps the Greens one bit. Our job is to condemn actions, campaign to stop arms sales, give our money to agencies, and other actions that make sense from where we are.

Might of known the government would cancel the triple lock just as GenX is coming up for retirement age. GenX are often pumped together with Boomers, but we've actually had massive earnings disruption and dislocations, and many of us don't have other pensions to speak of.

I like his point here - he's exactly right. It's not good if people are languishing on benefits but you cannot just simply throw them off. As for LK, very disrespectful. He's the PM ffs.

Apart from the attack on disability benefits, they aren't designed for fluctuating, complex conditions at all. I say this as someone with lupus - relatively established as a disease with a treatment pathway - who doesn't get benefits & the NHS support is limited.

Doctors don't like illnesses they don't understand, are heavily influenced by past established practices, are working with limited resources and are told not to refer if possible. LC centres have been disbanded. The government doesn't want to think about Covid at all.

This year my council extended garden waste deliveries to our rural area. £50 for a brown bin for the entire season. My neighbours, who live in million pound houses and can definitely afford £50, carry on burning their garden waste. Who doesn't love being overwhelmed with the smell of smoke.
