Poor books. Poor you. Miserable. I'm going to conjure a new kind of Voodoo doll, where I walk it to your place (after making it read all the details, of course), and leave it there. Then it's human has to buy the house ✅

Honestly some days, I just want to stare into a hole in the ground too.
A pigeon standing in the street, facing left with its tail in the air as it leans forward and stares into a little hole between the cobbles. The pigeon is a mix of dark grey (on its head), a muddy pale russet (body and wings), and white (tail). The cobbles are grey and sandy colours.

It certainly sounds like she doesn’t care, or she is that out of touch… And I suggest any politician who answers any question with, “they just need to…” is indeed *that* out of touch. My advice would be to (a) stop stereotyping the poor, and (b) listen.

Also, I wonder if Badenoch realises the financial value of having an established support-network, in terms of savings to both the economy and to healthcare services. Does she not realise that you lose that network when you move?

Loss of income (to take time off for moving logistics), and/or increased stress/depression/anxiety, loss of support network, massive disruption for children, and so on. This all supposes you can find somewhere cheaper. If only we still had a working social housing system…

Kemi Badenoch says if you can’t afford your rent (because they’ve cut your housing benefit), you should just “move somewhere cheaper”. Didn’t some politician once tell us to sell our pearls if we were struggling? (I can’t find a reference now, and am wondering if I’m gaslighting myself… anyone?)

In the centre of the image is a mud-covered man, wrapped in an orange flexible stretcher, which is carried by a host of rescue workers (wearing orange hi-vis vests and red, yellow, or orange helmets). The man in the stretcher has his hands raised in a gesture of prayer.

Today’s poem is called ‘Fall’.
Fall

she loved to catch
the falling leaves
in autumn

she would sit

       and
 wait
            beneath

  the
       trees

                        until

    she’d

             cautumn

Formatting is so wildly important. Please follow submission guidelines about formatting to the letter. Reading 400+ stories is hard enough without scanning through tiny fonts, terrible line spacing, weird justification etc. Help my old eyes read you more easily.

Even with an exposure time of 1/4000th of a second, less than 8% of the sun’s light is still too much for my camera – only the lens flare gives it away! #OctoEclipse @OctopusEnergy
In the far bottom-right corner is the silhouette of a treetop. in the lower-right-centre is the sun, much overexposed and looking a bit ragged and uneven, with star bursts radiating from it, but no other detail. Top centre is a lens flare, showing just how thin a crescent the sun was showing at the time. The background is actually a weird sepia colour (a light yellow/brown), getting darker towards the edges away from the sun.

I’m fine, thank you! Was pulling through a parking space and (incredibly gently) kissed a gnarly curb. I’m guessing the tyre was pinched; it was much too slow to have been just the impact 😕 The silver lining was the guy in the recovery truck, who was absolutely lovely ☺️
A sharp curb corner (centre right) protruding into the parking spaces at a 45° angle. Tarmac on the left, with the stub of the dividing white line going from centre to centre-left.
