The reply reads: There are literally only two dots here. Please, we are begging you, connect the two dots.

Spooky? 👀 Angie certainly thinks so when she first sees the Village. Haunted? 👻 By the ghosts of Original Builders who disappeared untold millions of years ago. Poorly crafted image created by me in GIMP 😅 Make bad art that's your own! 😉 #QueerPrompts #WriteSky
Mock-up of the entry to the Builder facility the Elderfolk call "the Village" with silly captions that read "Spooky tunnel!" and "Aliens lived here!" and "it's giving murder basement". It's a rather poorly crafted image created in GIMP, but I'm sorta embracing the idea of posting crap images so other people realize they don't need to resort to AI in order to give a visual.

The basic layout of the game remains the same as before, but the materials the board is made of are no longer available in Enclosure. The deer that gives up those huge spoon-shields (𝑆𝑖𝑛𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑔𝑎𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑠 𝑝𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑦𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑢𝑠) has been precluded by other setting elements. Regardless... 2/8

No laughing at my poor GIMP skills from the past! 😅 Raiders & Mammoth is a game I came up with for the setting that serves several purposes, not least of which is to intone that early racecourse games like Senet may have come to us from Neanderthal freinds. 🧵1/8 #OctoberWorldbuilders #WriteSky
A game-board of Raiders & Mammoth as it appeared in earlier iterations of my story. The board vaguely resembles a mammoth's head where the course starts at the tip of the trunk, moves up the head, around the ear, across the faces, around the other ear, down the face and out the tip of the trunk again. Cowrie shells are the game pieces in this version.

Same goes for black bears that are often far smaller and more charming than you expect, and yet still as wild and dangerous as any bear. The one who eventually pays the price for humans not knowing their boundaries is the poor bear. Leave them alone, ffs.

My story follows a chapter-by-chapter, close serial 3rd limited, so my goal is that the narrative texture of each chapter be faithful to the inner voice and observational tendencies of the single POV character, in this case, Angie, who offers the reader a modern lens. #LitHodgepodge #WriteSky
Through the canopy overhead, the sky was periwinkle. Angie had seen such skies as a girl visiting her grandparents in Puerto Rico. Periwinkle sky spoke of hot days and stormy afternoons where the humidity was a blanket pressing against you.
Not here, though. Here, every day had a periwinkle sky with friendly clouds.
It was almost like a cartoon.
But, not really.
Her arm trembled.
Leaves danced out of rhythm with the breeze for a bit before the little deer stepped into view.
Maybe it was a deer, maybe it wasn’t. The antlers were weird. Tiny, protruding from elongated parts of the skull like what a giraffe has. These certainly weren’t giraffe. So many things only resembled what she remembered.
She stood at the edge of a clearing where a huge bay tree had died. The heavy bulk of its bleached grey skeleton sprawled silently in the middle, but the area was already crowded with a riot of plants competing for the open sky. However long ago this tree had died, its funeral had been short and the real estate was up for grabs. Sayan had deftly tracked the small deer to this space. How he did it so well was still a mystery. The little piles of pebbly poop were the only dots he managed to connect that were obvious to her.
Not fantasizing him into some elf or hobbit was a constant job. His cheery nature and goofy smile only added to the task.
There were three deer, but the other two were still hidden back in the trees. This one had finally stepped out, its triangular head nibbling greens from the ground, its little tongue moving deftly, plucking leaves from bushes, its double-pronged antlers describing little figure eights in the air as it ate.
It was the kind with the weird face it could flex. They were cute until they weren’t.
Angie remained frozen, spear and thrower in a hand gone sweaty.

Myth: Autistic people are universally unable to parse metaphor, sarcasm, nuance, word play, etc.

Fact: As an autistic person, I use metaphor all the time in my narratives, at all scales, from syntactic description like “The sun was a ball of blood” to the overarching metaphors that underpin the meaning and intent of entire narratives. In fact, let me use a metaphor to prove my point:

Allistic people are usually transitive verbs. They need a direct object upon which to enact their wishes, drives, needs, wants, and motives in order to function correctly.

Autistic people are usually intransitive verbs. We don’t need a direct object to function, to simply be. We’re usually avoiding and eschewing all the direct objects that refuse to leave us alone to our nerdy little shit that requires no one else present for us to love.

Far more important to the formation of Redwood's Tukhé is the temporal facet of how tukhé enter Enclosure. The sampling era that gives rise to their population covers roughly 20k years (the vertical green bar). So, time rather than geography is the primary driver for linguistic evolution. 5/11

Just a quick little ditty inspired by the above. 😉
The shick-shick-shick of back-loom shuttles fills the air with unintended rhythm. Gola the Weaver is pleased to receive company as renowned as Nikho. The winter night is warm within the longhouse by the fire, the storehouses are full, a longhorn (rhino) somewhere outside squeaks and chirps a call to her friends, so incongruous with the animal’s huge bulk.

Nikho leans into a structural post near the hearth in Gola’s run of the longhouse, a bone flute at his lips, a haunting sigh emanating from it. It’s been centuries since Gola heard him play. Centuries since he left with Tourr’di and young Sayan.

Such a handsome fellow, Nikho. But so quiet, even for a moasa.

Yet, the flute speaks of his time near the sea.

Gola picks through thread and yarn. Perhaps she will make him a manta in greens and blues to keep him warm.
