It wouldn't be a Guardians relief appearance without at least 1 home run

It takes the edge off "insane." He pitched 1 inning yesterday, de facto.

Martin Schneider @wovenstrap.bsky.social · 1h
A factor you're not naming is that he had extraordinarily few pitches yesterday. If those innings had been more taxing, Vogt would be more careful.

I agree with you but it's the way things are done in 2026. The Braves brought Chris Sale in, with a game to start in 2 days, to protect a 5-1 lead.

it has all the appearances of a pseudo-managerial blunder.

He's showing no sign of strain. The only true case against it is "now the White Sox have all seen him a lot" IMO.

I probably would have started the inning with Espino. There's an off day tomorrow, it'll probably be fine.

Don't look now, but the highest-scoring team in the 2026 playoffs, on a runs/game basis, is the Cleveland Guardians. Cleveland: 5.25 r/g Yankees: 4.60 r/g White Sox: 4.50 r/g Padres: 3,67 r/g Dodgers: 3.50 r/g etc.

That's interesting.... I agree with OP, why do we think it's uncommon? Is it purely because of maiden names getting written out of the record?

I know, and you're right but I've been playing this "killer" thing for so long I don't recognize it as sudoku anymore, and I love it. You're right, there's probably not that much for you there!

I would love a version of this with your design sense attached. ... I've been playing this daily for a couple of years, I never get tired of it, I don't know why. Sudoku never did anything for me, especially.

If you're looking for something to do, check this out. Sudoku, but this site's "killer" version which just means a simple overlay of bespoke boxes with integers attached, with or without the X diagonals being necessary, and a third variant.

Yeah don't. It's great as is. It's recognizable as a game encountered elsewhere but the implementation is top-notch.

If we deserved it, if the GOP deserved it, it would hardly be worth doing. They're bad people who want bad things to happen to the commonweal.
010
Martin Schneider @wovenstrap.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
If they had to sit around thinking about what freaking policies will benefit the commonweal, well that's for losers and Democrats which are synonymous, fuck that. We're in it for the removal of our adversaries' human rights and the power generally, which we don't deserve, that's part of the point.

I think we can agree on something, which is that the nepotism/laziness has a performative aspect. It is not sheer luck that leads to it, they are telling the electorate that they have power and impunity. The program is not sufficiently successful without that.
110
Martin Schneider @wovenstrap.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
The goal is to lead to safe seats and that leads to complacency/laziness. These are candidates who only function when the elections are not contested but Trump brings about conditions where they are contested and then the complacency costs them. Sheer nepotism is a bad electoral strategy, yes.
110
Martin Schneider @wovenstrap.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Yes, this is correct but not everything is dictated by Trump. And nepotism is relevant to this. But the illegitimacy of the GOP predates Trump and relies on what we can broadly call shenanigans. Suppressing the vote, pruning voter rolls, gerrymandering, etc. The list is long and goes back years.

Has Ezra or Matt Yglesias written about the contempt for the GOP electorate implied by running Darline Graham?
110
Martin Schneider @wovenstrap.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Yes, I think that's a part of it but more important is bad habits bred by polarization and by gerrymandering and similar antidemocratic tendencies. Running Lindsey Graham's sister to replace Graham isn't really an index of stupidity, it's an index of complacency, that that helps the Dems.

Martin Schneider @wovenstrap.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
And it ends up being kind of a Rorschach test, even though it doesn't have to be. You just have to think clearly to override it. But people cave to their biases and call it science. In the moment it feels like it's been confirmed but just wait three months and the conclusions will be different.

Martin Schneider @wovenstrap.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I think these poor predictions are really about contempt for the regular Democratic Party processes that by definition are less decisive. Orwell was very good on this. People worship power, they identify with it and fantasize about it, and the Democrats are bad for that kind of objectification.

- Out parties do better in the midterms - Trump in office is a huge drag on the GOP's numbers - Authoritarian parties in general and the GOP in particular are lazy about choosing good candidates in congressional races - The GOP successes in 2024 depended on POCs that it was intent on offending

Martin Schneider @wovenstrap.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The weirdest part of this is that this was all broadly foreseeable. You just have to think about 2018 for like three minutes. The numbers this year are a **little** higher than I would've expected, but the general situation was almost predestined. But our sage observers couldn't see it.
