If you can, you want (hopefully) cheap dimensional lumber, not MDF. On this one the window only opens wide enough for the AC unit, so it's designed to fill the hole and support the AC unit. i has plywood handy, but cardboard or pressboard would work to fill the gap

A slightly over-complex frame of 1x2", 2x2" and 2x4" wood made to go in a slider window and support a regular window AC unit.

I know... fashion. But this whole ensemble is giving Eleanor Morton on the way to her job as a zoo vet.

An ensemble built around the shorts, with a matching button down shirt buttoned to the top, a light sweater with a deeply plunging neck line that is more suggestive of a shrunken cardigan haphazardly buttoned together, and a (probably) asymmetrical black skirt held up by two long straps which has a real industrial apron vibe.
