Round NASA Mission patch with red boundary and white lettering "C. elegans microbiome experiment CBIOMES." Inner circle is a cartoon white C. elegans body with black pharynx and different microbes in the gut. Inner circle also has a red planet with orbit and three yellow stars. The background is blue. The patch is displayed on the stage of a dissecting microscopy

Kinetochore proteins have non-chromosome roles!! KNL-1 is enriched in dendritic projections of developing sensory neurons where they control PVD branching & fusion thru actin. Nice study from Dhanya Cheerambathur Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology University of Edinburgh tinyurl.com/4k3shp6n

The kinetochore protein KNL-1 regulates the actin cytoskeleton to control dendrite branching | Journal of Cell Biology | Rockefeller University Press
Alves Domingos et al. uncover a non-cell-division-related function for the kinetochore protein KNL-1 in dendrite arborization. They show that KNL-1 regulat

Happy #FluorescenceFriday! We targeted TurboID to ciliary extracellular vesicles carrying specific cargo that are shed from C. elegans sensory neurons. Next, we used proximity labeling to define distinct EV subtypes. Posted on bioRxiv and under revision (7 reviewers 😭!!!): doi.org/10.1101/2024...
Scheme of C. elegans male tail sensory ray anatomical structures that release PKD-2::GFP EVs and fluorescence image of EVs released from the sensory rays carrying PKD-2::GFP and TurboID (mScarlet). Each sensory ray of the male tail harbors a ciliated dendritic ending protruding into the environment and releasing PKD-2 EVs from the tip of its sensory cilium
