I need to distinguish between those I want to be in the same party as me and a much larger group who I'd love to persuade to vote for our candidates, maybe joining later on.

I feel like if you say "society should be run to meet public needs, not make profits for a few" but then allow that *some* companies exist to service public needs while others do exist purely to make profits for a few, that's a bit contradictory. At the very least it's ambiguous about priorities.
