it's very funny (read: stupid) to frame manchester city dismantling a rival as defiance or overcoming adversity when their ability to win a lot with squads that were constructed illegally is kinda the whole point of the scandal

There’s someone doing their recycling just outside my apartment who got to hear me scream in distress (three times) over what is happening in the Liverpool match.

I have such contempt for City. Every time I think about the cheating I get nauseated with anger.

They were jackhammering the pavement outside my window and they turned off the building water so I went and spent a truly absurd amount of time at the bird exhibit at the zoo since I wouldn’t be productive anyway. Also learned the mandarin word for duck is ya thanks to an adorable toddler.

My apartment is having a Halloween decorating contest and I was just explaining to someone that I bought a styrofoam head to paint like it’s decapitated and then add some rubber maggots and by her expression I’m going to have to dial my plans waaaaay back. Miscalculated the macabre level yet again.

The closest I’ll ever come to parenting a teenager is gently pushing back with my elderly dad about his AI and TikTok usage and my mom about her excessive hours of TV (8 hours of MSNOW daily).

Started inappropriately laughing at this stunningly vague description of the Iraq War in the museum. I wonder how many hours of meetings were devoted to saying nothing.

Went to cooking demo/history of macaroni and cheese talk at American History museum, which featured a recipe for the most delicious mac I’ve ever had plus one of my favorite type of lecture interactions (historian gets politely furious when faced with popular swill misinformation)

Eventually realized that 50’s/60’s US (and probably an alarming amount of contemporary) education taught early history of the Americas as exploration not empire, so I backtracked to explaining the Spanish and Portuguese Empires.

My mother asked this morning why the Dutch settled in NYC, and I started explaining the Dutch-Portuguese War and the 80 Year War and Caribbean agriculture and prevailing trade winds like the living embodiment of the meme of the specialist overestimating general knowledge.

NHL winks at hockey romance subculture with ‘Hot for Hockey’ campaign
The NHL is rolling out a series of short stories on audiobook platforms throughout the season that present real-life NHL storylines in the style of romance novels.

Scheduled my post-baseball Glenstone Museum day. My feelings about it are very mixed because as much as I enjoy the free art and nature, I can never shake the knowledge I’m on the compound of the ultra-rich with limited cell/wifi service and might be hunted for sport at any moment.

There are larger implications to the City story, but every time I read an update I flashback to those Klopp-era Liverpool teams that lost by one point and imagine a more timely points deduction punishment and I want to wander into the woods to let out the longest primal scream imaginable.

I used to work in ultra high net worth banking customer service and every tech billionaire had a 55-65 year old woman (always a woman, always in that age range) assistant who ran his life and he would scream at me when I « bothered » him by trying to confirm a $50,000,000 wire transfer she requested

This was unquestionably a successful season for the Nationals, who went from 66 wins and a -212 run differential to 77 wins and a +6 run differential. But it also could’ve been more, and they know it, which now fuels them heading into 2027. natsjournal.com/p/a-successf...

Perfect weather, a bananas game, couldn’t enjoy it like I should’ve thanks to that transphobic homophobic asshole but I have Sunday as I do over to savor the end of the season. On a positive note, I’ve always been a “pretty crier” so the usher saw me and went “wow you like great tonight!”

Philly Opera letting public school students attend dress rehearsals was my intro to opera so I hope the Met lotto expands interest. FYI Family Circle tix are $47 and the view is fine so if you’re within day trip radius of NYC and opera-curious it’s a (relatively) reasonable night out.

It was just cool and dreary enough today that my autumn/winter brain kicked in to inform me 7 pm is now “in bed with a good book” and not “lounging by a pool listening to the baseball game” time. Just checked the Nats score and clearly I was right to embrace autumn.

Got to remember people aren’t acting irrationally, they simply don’t have the exact timing between trains memorized nor do they know which car allows for quickest transfer between lines. On a related note, I shouldn’t have to pay hundreds of dollars to get a neurodivergence diagnosis.

Everyone coming down the Capitol South escalator just looks at the delays and yells “Holy shit!” Again, this is on me for not checking if trains are running more than 20 minutes apart. My usual idea to bypass the Green on busier games by connecting at Metro Center via Capitol South has backfired.
