Shocking 14% rise in homelessness in England. 354,000 people homeless, includes 161,500 children - equivalent to city the size of Coventry. Result of austerity, real wage/benefit cuts, unchecked profiteering. Govts make slogans do nothing to end inequities. www.theguardian.com/society/2024...

UK finance industry (City) hypes its contribution to the economy. Claims it paid £110.2bn tax. FALSE. Income tax, employee NIC, VAT is borne by others. Finance industry paid £48.3bn tax. In a 15 year period, it made NEGATIVE £4,500bn contribution to economy. leftfootforward.org/2024/12/the-...

The government shouldn’t pin all of its hopes for economic growth on the finance industry
Such a strategy was tried in 1970s and came to grief in the mid-1970s secondary banking crash.

Remember, in geo-politics and the current world order there are no good guys. The enemies of your enemies are not your friends - Putin, Trump, Biden. Starmer, Von Der Leyen, Assad, Neatanyahu, etc are all bad guys.

This is such a shocking statistic, but sadly less surprising than it should be. 68% more people are struggling without enough food to eat than just *a year ago*. This is what happens when you prioritise profit over people’s actual lives.
A screenshot of a tweet by Sam Freedman (@samfr) which says: “Can’t get over that there’s been a 68% increase in one year in the number of people who don’t have enough food to 3.7 million people and it’s not anywhere near the biggest news story.” Below this is a graph showing the number of people who have very low levels of food security to illustrate the point.A drawing from our graphic novel adaptation of The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists shows a poverty-stricken household over the Easter holidays. From outside a small house we see Sawkins, in his 20s and in ragged and paint-stained clothes, sitting bored on the doorstep while his mother attempts to wash the broken and cracked window with a tatty rag and a bucket with a hole in it. One of the panes of glass has been replaced with a piece of newspaper
