The problem was never the tariffs. It was the 51st state talk and attempts (which are ongoing) to break Canada apart. It was the fact that over 50% of the American popular vote went to the ma who would be King. So no, I don’t feel like our neighbourhood has improved with SCOTUS ruling today.

The American government is no longer a trustworthy partner for Canada. We renegotiated NAFTA in Trumps first term, and he promptly broke our trading partnership within weeks of his second. We need to seriously invest in our own defense capabilities and find other markets for our products.

Canada needs to sign a rare earth deal with Ukraine. Any deal at all, just to piss off King Trump. That being said, Canada and Ukraine probably have a lot to offer each other and so some trade deal would be good. We need more markets across the Atlantic, and Ukraine would be a great partner.

I’m rereading Margaret MacMillan’s “The War that Ended Peace.” I highly recommend for anyone interested in WW1. It’s also a great read for discovering how the troubles of today were planted long ago.
