Really waiting for John Green to complete his autistic awakening (listening to him talk about observing and mimicking social interaction as a kid and into adulthood in an interview with his audiobook narrators for Hollywood, Ending--& that's on top of his restrictive/repetitive interest in TB lol).

People driving cybertrucks in 2026 deserve to experience judgment of their choices. People who call their cybertrucks to self-drive 100 meters from their parking space to meet them at the front of Target deserve that tenfold. Losers.

My dad will be dead for ten years on Monday. For a few reasons, I can't take the day off of work, which stinks because I feel it coming, and it is really heavy.

Obviously rabies vaccines don't cause dogs to be autistic. But I would certainly rather have an autistic dog than a rabid one. Rabid animals do factually cause other rabid animals and also death. (Also my border collie is autistic and I will hear no arguments to the contrary) (Obv joking)

I think I speak for all nonprofit behavioral health agency employees everywhere when I say that no matter how shitty the current electronic health record is, we do not want to switch to a new one under any circumstances. I want to use the one where it's already clear to me how it is dysfunctional.

My niece calls me Neenee, and it is unclear if that was a pronunciation of my name or her sweet little version of "auntie." I love it a lot (in part bc it is an honor to be named, in part bc it can be my enby title). One of my besties has a toddler who also uses this name for me. It is real good.

This North Carolina #rabidbabygoats story is wild as hell. It is such clear "individual incompetence meets public health policy failure" that it feels like the exact stuff good-sense regulation is made of, yet I have no confidence in my state or federal government to do anything at all about it.

I never read Cry, the Beloved Country in school (though it was on reading lists so this one's on me), and I am getting around to it now because South Africa keeps coming up as essential context for the learning I've been doing lately. And WOW does it remind me of Grapes of Wrath. 1/

I have a pretty moderate and nuanced view of LLMs. I believe we are in a moral panic about consumer use of them while not being outraged enough about government and corporate use. But Jesus Christ, I am so glad not to be teaching high school in this time.

I am committed to not abusing customer service people who have no control over corporate policy, and that commitment is being sorely tested by Blue Cross Blue Shield at this time.

2016 was a personally very traumatic year for me, even laying aside the election, and 2026 is shaping up to be a similarly horrendous year for us, even laying aside the active fascism. I would love for things to chill the fuck out.

Reading A Resistance History of the United States by @tadstoermer.bsky.social and fuming once again over how retrospectively transparent the propaganda of American "social studies" (and tbh, "American Literature") curricula really is. As a former HS teacher, I feel complicit in the lies.

Reading Kimberlé Crenshaw's memoir Backtalker, which has been pretty good overall--the best parts have been those about her professional life and work. The Clarence Thomas saga (including Anita Hill ofc) has really reiterated how horribly strategic Republicans/racists have been for decades.

Man, nothing like a white leftist man having credible SA allegations (on top of history as a mercenary, a Nazi tattoo, & a traceable problematic internet presence) to bring out of the woodwork men who think running a SA perp on the left is just what you gotta do in light of Epstein???

I need to add some lighthearted but well-written books to my TBR pile as I have definitely leaned toward adding heavy and homeworky titles lately. Typical genres I like: speculative, historical, fantasy, multigenerational family epic Not usually into romance but open to it #booksky

One thing we are not gonna do about Kohen Wiley is say "of course that was in Mississippi" when police have been shooting Black people in every region of the US the whole time. This violent-ass cesspool of a country has always valued property over people. It is how it was built and expanded.

The voice update is that I have functionality back, but it is weak & I can't sing much. But I am in speech therapy & it is getting better. Seems like the viral illness started it and emotional stress re: D's health scare & lots of work shit maintained it. Working a lot on relaxing neck & shoulders.

Read this lovely little book today: Clear by Clarys Davies. It is set during the "highland clearances" in Scotland in which indigenous Gaelic clans were evicted from ancestral lands. This story happens in this context & is a story about human connection in a system committed to alienation.

The more patriotic deconstruction I do, the angrier I am about how many humans the military recruited out of poverty to do immoral things & maybe die doing them. & if they don't die, fail them in material ways at home while lauding their sacrifices for our freedom. Anyway, Happy Memorial Day weekend

The ENT diagnosed my voice condition as "muscle tension dysphonia" and is throwing allergy meds, reflux meds & lifestyle recs, and speech therapy at it. Googling suggests that with the therapy it can be weeks/months to recover my voice. It is what it is and I will do the things. But wow it sucks.

Today is day 21 of near-total laryngitis. I was given an "urgent referral" to ENT, and my "urgent" laryngoscopy is May 18th. Hopefully this resolves on its own before then, jfc. Not having a voice makes 75% of my work nigh on impossible.

It is a lot, living in the world where simultaneously a cruel and evil man holding the nuclear codes threatens that an entire civilization will die tonight, while two women astronauts give us the #solarpunk litany for our time.
Post from Threads user bullcityanna on the topic of Artemis II that reads:

Almost finished reading #NoMoreTears about #JohnsonAndJohnson. It illustrates pretty well the toxic influence of capitalist motive on healthcare and reveals the FDA to be a fairly toothless and ineffectual control on that. J&J is really pretty damn evil.
The audiobook cover for No More Tears: the Dark Secrets of Johnson & Johnson by Gardenier Harris. The design spoofs Johnson & Johnson's baby products and included a red circle with a pink banner including thr words "deception," "corruption," and "death."

I think a lot about the dearth of solidarity and collaborative art on the right. They can't do this. We can. There's a reason that they've worked against collectivist movements (including suppression of education about them). They have the nukes, but/and they're scared of what we can do together.

Whether or not you were a Bible Kid™️, you can appreciate this good story… in the Book of Ruth, Naomi is about to make a journey back to her homeland (she has lost her 2 sons and husband at this point). She intends to go alone. But then her daughter-in-law, Ruth, says (famously), “where you go, I’ll go. Where you stay, I’ll stay. Your people will be my people, and your god my god.” It is a proclamation of chosen family. It is a pledge of allegiance to one another. Over anything else. This song - “Where You Go” - was written by 5 songwriters in January 2026. We live in Texas, North Carolina, Minnesota, Colorado, and California. We are inspired by the people of Minneapolis (and many many other communities in our country), who are choosing one another over anything else. They can’t mess with one of us without messing with all of us. Where you go, I’ll go. Where you stay, I’ll stay. I will walk you home ‘til we all are safe.xoxoGina Chávez Flamy GrantSadie Gustafson-ZookChina KentSpencer LaJoye

Regardless of the decision about expelling the IUSW, the fact that #NASW does not acknowledge the genocide in Gaza that multiple expert organizations have found plausible does, in fact, "diminish the seriousness of the humanitarian crisis in Palestine." @naswsocialworkers.bsky.social
Instagram caption to the logo for the IFSW: The International Federation of Social Workers today voted not to suspend or expel the Israeli Union of Social Workers from that body. NASW supported that outcome. Our vote does not diminish the seriousness of the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and Israel. Rather, our position reflects our belief that professional engagement, ethical accountability, and sustained dialogue are more effective than exclusion in advancing peace, justice, and human rights. Jesse Jackson's 1988 letter to the "Deaf President Now" protesters at Gallaudet University. "The problem is not that the students do not hear. The problem is that the hearing world does not listen." gallaudet.edu/museum/histo...
Gallaudet University is a proud symbol of the deaf community. Yet in its 124 years of existence, this prestigious university has never had a president who is hearing impaired.

Its Board of Trustees has never included a majority of hearing impaired people.

Indeed, when the chairperson of the Board states that “deaf people are not ready to function in a hearing world,” and when a hearing candidate for president is selected over several qualified deaf candidates, it is no surprise that the students of Gallaudet have joined together in protest.
The Board of Trustees has an obligation to respond to student concerns with sensitivity. There is no time to resolve this dispute equitably.

The problem is not that the students do not hear. The problem is that the hearing world does not listen.

The entire nation owes the students of Gallaudet its gratitude for reminding us once again that each of us has the ability and the right to achieve. I urge the Board of the University to move forward and recognize the justice of its students’ demands.

In Solidarity,

Jesse L. Jackson

Folks that this label would be applied to have both autism & intellectual disability. There doesn't need to be a new label. It doesn't provide the labeled person with any new benefit, and imo it is a way for grievance parents to distance their child from ID & simultaneously stigmatize autism. 1/
