I haven't seen the film but based on the trailers I think even as a kid I simply would not have been fooled by the Other Mommy. They'd come in and start talking some shit about having one heart and I'd be like, "You're the Other Mommy, aren't you?"

I would love this! Thinking of the time I had to yell in the face of a guy who would not leave me alone at a Julian Plenti show in NY because he refused to understand I was there to cover it and not exchange even a minute's worth of banter with him.

My freshman year of high school came w/the release of R.E.M.'s "Out of Time," Nirvana's "Nevermind," Pearl Jam's "Ten," Pixies' "Trompe le Monde" and Smashing Pumpkins' "Gish." Talk about a transformative year.

My love for R.E.M. was reactivated while editing @carynrose.bsky.social's latest column for @salon.com. Short list of songs on repeat this week: "Try Not to Breathe," "Half a World Away," "Country Feedback." I am, of course, Gen X obligated to lean towards "Out of Time" www.salon.com/2026/10/07/m...

Kinda can't believe that 1) publicists are still pitching song premieres 2) They're still pitching them to sites that don't/have never pubbed song premieres. Might as well open your window and sing that song for the birds to carry from town to town.

Literally, the only downside of self-publishing is that other people treat it as less than. But what's better: having a book published or waiting for someone to tell you you can?

4) I was able to be in charge of my own publicity, reaching out to the publications I wanted to and getting a nice little bundle of reviews from it.

3) As you're working on a book, it feels wonderful to know that, when it's done, there will be no song and dance to share it with the world; you can just send it.
