For a few years now it has felt like the new fair food list was just a way for vendors to charge $20 for things that should be $10-$12. None of it looks particularly appealing this year. www.instagram.com/p/DeHSgruFd8...

So much of the lens on culture has been turned into a numbers game, where everything is about chart placements and streaming numbers and data. Its a horse race to who gets to do data best, and all of these dorks forget that people just want a song that will make them cry at the grocery store.

🧵 The real problem with the Red Sox is that they're cheap. In the past 5-7 years they've ignored good FA pitchers and signed injury rehab projects: Liam Hendricks: $10m -- 13.2 IP, 6.59 ERA Walker Buehler: $21m -- 112 IP, 5.45 ERA, -1.0 WAR Patrick Sandoval: $18.25m -- 70 IP, 5.12 ERA, -0.6 WAR

Post Malone's country album worked because his voice fit the music. It was clear he'd listened to A LOT of classic country, plus he had some help (sorry) from all the guests.

Billy Steele @wmsteele.bsky.social · 27/08/2026

And I think these are actually good songs that tell good stories, they just need like a Tom Petty classic rock with a country tinge than what's happening here.

I love Brandon Flowers, and I love The Killers, but his voice just doesn't fit country tunes. The mariachi track is the best and most believable on the album.

Billy Steele @wmsteele.bsky.social · 27/08/2026

Listened to this Brandon Flowers country record, and it really highlights the problem with artists from other genres cosplaying country: Many of them don't have the voice for it.

I don't think "neutral" is accurate. Most public figures try to stay neutral. There's nothing special about that. Dolly was different. She said that her politics were simple: "love and acceptance." That's not passive neutrality. It's the conviction of active, courageous inclusion and invitation.
