Diplomatic cable leaked to me shows Marco Rubio order embassies to bar people from the US for speech-related reasons. Hours later, Rubio gave a speech at the Acropolis celebrating "free debate and public discussion": www.kenklippenstein.com/p/the-speech...

There’s a fascinating example in Gerald Horne’s “Counter-Revolution of 1776” where Georgia tried to act as a “white only” buffer colony between South Carolina and Spanish Florida, but it just resurfaced all the class and religious antagonisms that white supremacy papered over.

There’s a great scene in Mark Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” where the industrial age protagonist tries to explain inflation to the medieval peasants, with about as much success as you describe.

Judge Strikes Down Controversial Rule Changes Benefitting Embattled Brooklyn Party Boss
Outgoing party leaders had no authority to vote on rule changes that would have changed the balance of power on the party’s executive committee, a state Supreme Court judge found.

I think “first glance” is doing some heavy lifting. Most of our investment in car-dependence seemed plausible at first glance, but falls apart when you think for a minute about the cumulative effects of a system where everyone must drive. If AV boosters aren’t thinking it through, that’s a problem.

🆆 🅸 🅻 🅻 @wjfarr.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
And the best “shared ride” AV routing will always tend towards a transit route as demand increases.

It’s hard to imagine how anyone with a functional understanding of geometry can believe this. Nearly all cities today have traffic congestion. The spatial parameters of AVs do very little to change the inherent inefficiency of moving personal vehicles through urban (or even suburban) spaces.

Google’s depravity in using a fake name for Lake Ontario is really wild. I’ve changed my VPN, regional settings, and even language to see if that would fix the issue, but it seems like they’ve hard coded in a way where “Lake” won’t even translate to “Lac” like it does for the other Great Lakes.
Screenshot showing Google Maps is hard coding “Lake America” into their system so it won’t even translate like the other lakes do.

FWIW, the idea of plural voting for elites has a long history. It was used at various points in French history for example. See Domenico Losurdo’s “Bonepartism of Democracy” if the ways the ruling class has contorted electoral structures to their advantage throughout the 19th century interests you.
