People are going to talk about Sam Neill's performance in blockbusters like 'Jurassic Park' or literary films like 'My Brilliant Career' but he'll always be Merlin to me. (And my fave movie of his remains 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'.) RIP. You were a good 'un.

Melbourne buses are ridic. Am staying in Fairfield at the moment and agreed to meet my friend in Kew, which is the suburb immediately south. Here is the fastest route: take the bus down the highway to Collingwood, then catch another back down the highway to Kew. Worse than Canberra.

Sydney, Australia

I did pretty well; got to Genius before using the grid and everything but two and the pangram before peeking here. Ended up brute-forcing WI-6 and WI-10 (related words) based on vibes because the hints didn't help (as I've never heard these words before) but I'll take the Queen Bee anyway.

Would've liked to have seen wain, fain and fanging included.

I would have expressed my sympathies for the mass murders in Sydney this past weekend.

You mentioned words you’d like to see in Spelling Bee, so perhaps the other matter is not as important today as I think it is. Different perspectives.

As none of you told me, I'm assuming none of you know that you can turn off the AI answers in Google and trigger it to use web-only search. You'll still get slop at the top because that's just SEO in the Age of Enshittification, but do this to remove the overconfident arsewipe of a first answer.
Open Chrome and put chrome://settings/searchEngines in the search box.

A new tab will open, go to Search Engine > Manage Search Engines and Site Search.

Click on the Add button by the Site Search update. A new box will open.

Fill in the form with the following:
Name: AI Free Web
Shortcut: @web
{google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14

You’ll now see AI Free Web in the list.

Click on the three stacked dots on the right side of this new option.

Select Make Default.

Going forward, if you use the search box to trigger Google, you won’t get any of the Google AI overview results. Technically, these just bypass the main search results and filter out everything as opposed to truly disabling Google AI overviews. The result is about the same, however.

Debuting this at the Parramatta Zine Fair on 20 September. '(thinking about her) The Moon' or what I think about when I think about the moon. I forgot how cute (and finicky) A8 is.
Cover of a small zine depicting a tarot card of The Moon. A yellow moon is in the sky above some mountains. A stream splits the vertical centre under the mountains. A dog and a wolf sit on either side of the stream howling at the moon. A red lobster sits at the bottom of the image, where the stream widens.

The title, superimposed on the moon, reads (thinking of her) and at the bottom of the card it is labelled The Moon.
