I think about this a lot, too (altho for witchcraft instead of Thelema). I imagine the more intellectually deep trads fading and what remains being the ephemeral, pop witchcraft that looks more and more like New Thought in goth makeup. Unless social media dies somehow and people start reading again.

I've seen this come across my TL twice (and respect OP), but isn't this appeal to a sort of hyper-individualism a significant part of what brought us here in the first place? I'm unsure, and the cynic in me says use every rhetorical trick to kill AI and pull the rug on our techno oligarchs.

Irish myth fun fact Although widely assumed to be a sun god today Lugh wasn't associated with the sun until the Celtic Revival period, when the poets & artists of the day seized on a description of Lugh coming over a hill "like the sun rising in the west" in the Oidheadh Chlainne Tuireann.

1:3 reading Martin Laird: apophasis= letting go of forms, words, thoughts, and concepts; “negating” kataphasis = embracing forms and positive modes of expression; “affirming” logophasis = letting go into the embrace of what’s already here before words and thoughts ... and becoming its expression

I usually don't post about this stuff, so apologies. I'm pissed at MSM's use of the phrase "political violence" to refer exclusively to regular people targeting politicians or ideologues. FFS get some perspective journalists. State violence is purely and exclusively political, and it's rampant.

Losing SLACs (small liberal arts colleges) is absolutely a sign of American academia's decline and the gutting of the humanities in particular. I'm pretty sure SLACs are a uniquely American phenomenon. Most countries don't have hundreds of small, non-research-oriented colleges dedicated to teaching.

Lost in the forest, I broke off a dark twig
and lifted its whisper to my thirsty lips:
maybe it was the voice of the rain crying,
a cracked bell, or a torn heart.

Something from far off: it seemed
deep and secret to me, hidden by the earth,
a shout muffled by huge autumns,
by the moist half-open darkness of the leaves.

Wakening from the dreaming forest there, the hazel-sprig
sang under my tongue, its drifting fragrance
climbed up through my conscious mind

as if suddenly the roots I had left behind
cried out to me, the land I had lost with my childhood
and I stopped, wounded by the wandering scent.

I wonder at what point in studying Eastern religion that transliterations of Sanskrit terms and names stop bouncing off the "that's not a word" filter in my fore brains. I'm honestly finding that an audiobook version of the text is much better at teaching the terminology.

I lived in the first century of world wars. Most mornings I would be more or less insane The newspapers would arrive with their careless stories – Slowly I would get to pen and paper, Make my poems for others unseen and unborn. -Muriel Rukeyser #everynightapoem [Carel Willink, Bad Tidings, 1932]
[Carel Willink, Bad Tidings, 1932 Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam] Tempera on linen. A man in suit and hat in right foreground, walking away; a woman in white blouse and brown skirt, running up the street to reach him. Stately pink mansion and tree-lined street form the picture, ominous dark clouds overhead.I lived in the first century of world wars.
Most mornings I would be more or less insane,
The newspapers would arrive with their careless stories,
The news would pour out of various devices
Interrupted by attempts to sell products to the unseen.
I would call my friends on other devices;
They would be more or less mad for similar reasons.
Slowly I would get to pen and paper,
Make my poems for others unseen and unborn.
In the day I would be reminded of those men and women,
Brave, setting up signals across vast distances,
Considering a nameless way of living, of almost unimagined values.
As the lights darkened, as the lights of night brightened,
We would try to imagine them, try to find each other,
To construct peace, to make love, to reconcile
Waking with sleeping, ourselves with each other,
Ourselves with ourselves. We would try by any means
To reach the limits of ourselves, to reach beyond ourselves,
To let go the means, to wake.
I lived in the first century of these wars.

Drop some HORNS😈📯🦄🖤 Art by Jenna Barton / @dappermouth.bsky.social / dappermouth.storenvy.com
A dark, surreal illustration of a humanoid figure with the head of a black deer and glowing eyes. The figure wears a long, black cloak with a high collar, and its left hand is raised in a delicate gesture, contrasting with its animalistic head. The deer has multiple branching antlers, which are reddish-brown and stand out against the misty, muted forest background. A barbed wire fence runs along both sides, framing the figure in a haunting, fog-filled landscape. The initials "JB" appear in the bottom right corner.

Drop some HORNS😈📯🦄🖤
A highly detailed graphite drawing of Eliphas Levi's Baphomet symbolic figure seated on a large globe. The central figure has the body of a nude woman with cloven hooves, goat-like features including a horned head, and large bat wings. They also have 4 arms. Smoke billows from a torch between their horns. One hand rests on a large sword, another is raised in a gesture of 2 fingers pointing up, a third has the fingers pointing downward, a fourth rests on the globe, a fifth holds open a cupped palm, and the sixth rests in benediction upon the hood of a monk-like figure that squats behind the globe hiding his face in his hand as if in grief. A serpent-girt caduceus upon a scaled plate conceals the lower abdomen, and there are runic or occult symbols upon 2 of the figures arms.

The old oak in the woods behind my Father's house, where I played as a child. Probably a holdout from when the land was pasture and fields, before it was carved into residential parcels in the middle of the last century. It seems little changed, while we move on rapidly.
A tall oak with long, thick limbs stands in a dry winter wood of smaller trees. A thin, sickly cedar stands to the left. The sky is brilliant blue.

I'm also naturally skeptical or doubtful. I am drawn to models that allow for belief as a temporary, at-need state. I like the idea of "enthusiasm" in its Greek roots - being filled by god(dess) in concert with the English sense of the word. The ability to suspend skepticism comes with inspiration.
