June is wrapped to a close so here's an art banner of everything I watched/played! My favorite thing by FAR is Mario Kart World, but I LOVED The Phoenician Scheme, Kill Bill, The Royal Tenenbaums, two re-viewings of Popstar, and my second time seeing this revival of Cabaret!

Here's my art banner for April! My favorite things I got to experience this month were my rewatch of EEAAO, the Game Changer S7 opening, Haru (1996), Sinners, YAIBA, Shirkers, and Chi: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite A little bit of a rough month but this is what I've been enjoyin' :)

practiced some lettering re-touch on this bitmap page of FAIRY TALE: 100 Years Quest Vol. 6! I'm not a huge fan of the FWAH but I think the WOOOOO looks great and doesn't over-cover the art like last time. the second photo has the original JP sound effects for reference

a little bit more bitmap lettering practice, today on a (legally obtained) copy of Fire Force Vol. 5 (borrowing the original translation from Alethea and Athena Nibley; original lettering by AndWorld design on left)

i made this little short describing our protocols for our next lab assignment

Yellowtail @wistfulyellow.bsky.social · 03/04/2025

I did a bit of lettering/retouch practice on a (legally obtained) bitmap file of Shaman King Vol. 7 (originally lettered by Jan Lan Ivan Concepcion). Idk if this is a valid thing for my portfolio since it's a copyrighted work, but I figured I'd at least share it here! Feedback appreciated

Happy End-of-March! Here's my little art banner for March. I went thru a lot of stuff I really enjoyed this month! I'm specifically happy with SEVERANCE SEASON 2, but also Badhaai Do, Werewolves Within, Mickey 17, Whisper of the Heart, and Rye Lane :) Onto April!

if anybody has any recommendations for public domain comics so that lettering practice can be added to my portfolio let me know. ik one’s included in @gonzaloletterer.bsky.social’s course, so perhaps outside of that 🥺

I don't talk about it super often because I think there are a couple forgettable parts about it, but S1E5 of Mythic Quest is one of my favorite pieces of sitcom television. It's a really full-of-heart episode that's still realistic at the same time

i'm super late for this but this is everything I experienced in the month of February! shit's hitting different lately. I really loved replaying a bit of Majora's Mask, SNL50, Return to Seoul, Total Forgiveness, Rap World, Stand Up Solutions, and Sing Sing! onto march!

it’s so embarrassing being a classical pianist and my favorite piece being “Clair de Lune.” I wish it was a deeper cut but like fuck man it transports me every time I hear it / play it. It’s like my favorite movie being La La Land or something

whenever I read something like Star of Beethoven my heart aches for the letterer knowing almost every line of dialogue is going to have a long-ass preferentially unhyphenated name like Beethoven. pain in the ass

If you are a cis person *please* take 2 minutes to do this. Trans people with non-updated gender markers, historical gender marker changes, and X markers are terrified to travel right now; rolling back this policy would mean a lot.

here's my first little art banner of january 2025! this month, I really quite enjoyed Better Man, Stand-Up Solutions, A Different Man, Cabaret, started replayed P5, A Real Pain... fuck this was kind of a killer month. everything has been fucking sick :)

here’s the full suite of manga that I got for free yesterday! A lot of near-end Slam Dunk Deluxes, a bunch of early Arslan by Hiromu Arakawa, some of The Samurai, and then a few misc. things (turn-of-the-millennium BotI, Read or Die, Gunslinger Girl, Osomatsu-kun, Buddha, and the Batman manga)!

love typography and lettering so i'm trying to make my The Substance presentation for uni with the same distinct typography that's used in the film but the font files aren't available anywhere so i am hunting down the most inanely niche reddit rabbit holes to try to find it

gonna be sick, never looked close enough at my fav phone Lock Screen to realize that all the Pokémon card text was absolutely sloppily edited out using AI. not even well! look at the waviness of the edges of the architecture! and I, a fool, refused to notice until now

friend gifted me a bunch of JP-lang manga from their department and included in it was this 1997 Dark Horse release of Blade of the Immortal essentially in the style of a left-bound trade paperback and i always like looking through and seeing how lettering standards have change (left-aligned text!)

it's a goddamn crime that there can be two chipotles and two panera breads all on the same avenue within walking distance of me as a college student at ALL times but when I want Taco Bell, god's chosen fast food, I have to beg one of my friends with a car to drive 15 minutes out of the way

got a little frustrated so i wrote a tiny little chorus to a fake song that's been in my mind for the afternoon and figured out the chords to it and wrote it down so i can revisit it later

Babylon (2022) dir. Damien Chazelle isn't really a musical but in my mind it is. Each individual track on the OST takes up the same space in my mind as a lyrical song

this is kinda dumb but I noticed an older man was kind of prattling off at this younger girl on the bus last night and I worked up the courage to give a little tap-tap “hey girlie you okay is he bothering you” when he was distracted which is crazy work for my social anxiety

not in any way a tacit endorsement of one of the evilest people alive but it is an insane tactic to have an on-the-payroll italian opera singer follow you through every campaign event including your inauguration. if and when i achieve stardom i will employ an on-the-payroll opera singer.
