On reflection I think that this follows from a similar misunderstanding of RPGs to the common, "you succeed at anything on a natural 20" misunderstanding in dnd. There are sometimes where success just isn't possible and so you just don't roll.

Asprin is great, but I did mean Sheckley, much of his stuff isn't at the same level of humor as TP/DNA, but especially in his early works there are some humorous yarns ... Though also his humor is kind of dry so might be lost on some people. Rankin is on my todo list. I wish there was more SF humor.

It doesn't help that plenty of PbtA games have been written by folks who didn't really understand Apocalypse World. Even if you don't like how they play, reading Apocalypse World and Monsterhearts will both up your RPG game (as Player or MC), especially if you can identify the aspects you dislike.

I always wanna talk about books. Do you like Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams? Maybe try Tom Holt and Robert Sheckley. If you haven't read Lies of Locke Lamora, memory called empire, or the magicians (Grossman) I recommend them all.

To be clear some pbta authors misconstrue this and write partial success in their rules, but really 7-9 should always be still full success. Maybe the complication is you now owe a favor to your butcher, or the restaurant becomes so busy you don't have time to work on your new dish,etc,etc.

Nah this is wrong and a common misconception. 7-9 is a complication, you still do the thing. You succeed but it turns out you cook the best when you are being Raccacoonied, and now there's a count down clock until your secret is discovered by the reviewer.

Hey James Workshop, you can do better. One way is number the parts in order on the sprue. Or put parts from each model next to each other. To illustrate just how bad this is I put string in the order of assembly. Starts at 64. This is the worst of both worlds. #Warhammer #ageofsigmar #games-workshop

Hey @backerkit.com , I do like hearing about new projects, but 9 in 45 minutes is way too many. It sure would be nice if there were a way to limit how much unprompted stuff I get from y'all. But also it would be even better if they were "opt in" notifications, frankly unsubbing 'em all is a chore...

Made some progress on my #trenchcrusade troopers and some #shatterpoint terrain.

Pictures of work in progress miniatures on an old college dining hall tray. For industrial buildings from the base shatterpoint box painted such as you might see on tatooine have several trench crusade miniatures posed stop them.

Played some more #shatterpoint this week. We both brought inquisition heavy lists.

Near the start of the game, mostly everyone is still at their deployment points

Savage Opress and Assajj Ventriss (sp?) try to win out against three inquisitors before Darth Vader arrives

The battle shifts as Mother Talzin and her Acolytes southbound the fourth brother.

I use a modified version stolen from Tenra Bansho 0. Each player can give inspiration to another player once per session that lasts till the end of the session, dm can give inspiration which lasts until used. I use white and blue poker chips (white becomes blue when you give it away) + red from dm.

Got my first real game of #trenchcrusade in. Lost 4 to 5... But it was very much down to which of us succeeded the last relic recovery roll in the final round and Cole got it in the fourth attempt...
