That's enough Internet journalism for today (credit where credit is due : @etymology.substack.com.web.brid.gy with some fantastic work, once again)

In a recent conversation with Sutton, one of the most prominent AI successionists, I argued that no matter how smart AIs get, it’s surely wrong to assert that if one group is more intelligent than another, we should just get rid of the less intelligent group. To highlight the absurdity, I asked what I thought was a rhetorical question: Imagine if someone believed that white people were smarter than Black people; does that mean they should get rid of Black people, and Black people should just be okay with white people taking over?

“Um,” Sutton said, and then paused for nine seconds. “What if,” he offered, “you coexist and you’re coexisting with some entity that’s more productive than you are? This is the way I view the AI. We coexist with it.”

“But that’s not what the word ‘succession’ means,” I noted.

“Oh, I’m pointing out that it’s inevitable. If you allow them to be their way and you allow you to be your way, coexist, and their way just happens to be better, then they’re going to end up being more powerful. And you should be good with that.”

“You’re saying there will be a sort of Darwinian survival of the fittest?”

“In some sense, yes,” he said. “The winner should be whoever wins, and the spoils of winning should be whatever they are.”

“So in the thought experiment where hypothetically, in an imaginary world, it were true that white people are smarter than Black people,” I pressed, “then the smarter people will win out and the Black people should just be okay with that?”

“Well, why don’t we just say the intelligent people should win out over the dumb people and the dumb people should be okay with that,” he said. “I think the dumb people should be okay with that!”

But the idea that a species or group should accede to being squashed for some “greater good” is a eugenicist idea that should be flat-out rejected.

Absolutely disgusting and insane comment made by Ben Goertzel (father of AGI) to Epstein in 2008, and an even more insane justification, 18 years later. Broligarchy / Epstein Class ideology in a nutshell : absolving pedocriminals in the name of supremacy, eugenicism and technological transcendence.
“According to my understanding, the girls you were involved with were old enough to know what they were doing, so society really has no ‘moral right’ to lock you up,” Goertzel wrote to Epstein. “This is a fucked-up society we live in. But past ones have really been no better — the fault is really w/ the human brain architecture, which is precisely what I’m aiming to supercede in my AGI work.”

When asked to comment on these remarks — and in particular the implication that Epstein’s problems might be solved if his accusers’ brains were one day re-engineered — Goertzel told Coda: “This was a general observation that the messed-up nature of our society generally is rooted in the way our brains have evolved… and that advanced tech will let us modify our brains to make ourselves and thus our society better. There was no implication intended (nor stated) that women’s brains are any more or less messed up or in need of improvement than men’s.”

C'est quoi ça @info.radio-canada.ca? Les autres dites rien
The primary argument for genetic optimization is that it could revolutionize disease prevention. Based on the capital flowing into these startups—$36.5 billion in 2024, according to Astute Analytica—investors are bullish on the industry’s future. Backers include Thiel; Coinbase co-founder Brian Armstrong; OpenAI’s Sam Altman and his husband, Oliver Mulherin; venture capitalist Marc Andreessen; and Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, all of whom are heavily invested in AI, too.

Investors follow the money, of course, but part of the dual appeal of genetic optimization and AI is that both are central to transhumanism. This futurist philosophy, popular among the tech elite, aims to marry advancements in biology and technology to accomplish things today’s humans cannot—like extending our lives (perhaps forever!) or circumventing climate change (by colonizing other planets). While it may seem odd that these billionaires are constructing one technology some of them admit could bring about human extinction, even as they back another one to save us from what they’re building, there is, in fact, a unifying theme: “the rejection of limitation,” explains Alexander Thomas, author of The Politics and Ethics of Transhumanism. “That colonial impulse of ‘I want more.’”

The AI underneath the interface is not a language model, or at least the AI that counts is not. The systems that detect targets in satellite imagery, fuse data from radar and drone footage, and track objects across multiple intelligence sources are computer vision and sensor fusion.17 They predate large language models by years. Neither Claude nor any other LLMs detects targets, processes radar, fuses sensor data, or pairs weapons to targets. LLMs are late additions to Palantir’s ecosystem;they were added in late 2024, years after the core system was operational, “AIP” was added as a natural language layer that summarizes documents or constructs and answers queries.18 When Anthropic was blacklisted, the Pentagon signed a replacement contract with OpenAI within hours. Replacing one language model with another is often just a simple configuration change, all you really have to do is change the API endpoint.

The language model was never what mattered about this system. What mattered was what Maven did to the process: it consolidated the systems, compressed the time, and reduced the people. That is not a new idea. The United States military has been trying to close the gap between seeing something and destroying it for as long as that gap has existed, and every attempt has produced the same failure. Maven may not even be the most extreme case.

r/FuckingFascists is not the only porn subreddit that has stepped up its political engagement. As reported by The Verge, dick-pic-sharing sub r/MassiveCock came out hard against ICE over the weekend. The sub featured posts like “How hard I get when I think about abolishing ICE” and “ICE can fucking suck it”, accompanied by pictures of huge dicks. Some big-dick-enjoyers seem to have taken offense to the intrusion of politics into their sub, while others have encouraged it, like user BeSG24 who commented on one post: “LickCockNotBoot.” And across Reddit, as reported by Wired, the top posts in many of the most popular non-political subreddits such as r/CrossStich and r/catbongos (as in, playful drumming on cats) are anti-ICE posts

No, the money does not exist for you or me or a person. Money is for entities that could potentially funnel more money into the economy, even if the ways that these entities use the money are reckless and foolhardy, because the system’s intent on keeping entities alive incentivizes it. We are in an era where the average person is told to pull up their bootstraps, to work harder, to struggle more, because, as Martin Luther King Jr. once said, it’s socialism for the rich and rugged free market capitalism for the poor.

The “free market” is a fucking con. When you or I run out of money, our things are taken from us, we receive increasingly-panicked letters, we get phone calls and texts and emails and demands, we are told that all will be lost if we don’t “work it out,” because the financial system is not about an exchange of value but whether or not you can enter into the currently agreed-upon con.

100% would read the novel that starts like that
"A row of men lean against the metal shutters that keep them out of Westminster tube station, as they piss through the bars directly onto the steps on the other side. Nearby a furious man in his early 30s yells “bring the cocaine here now, mate” into his mobile, as a crowd cajoles the staff of an overcrowded Tesco to open their doors so they can buy more booze. It is not yet 2pm."
