The Beatles, Doctor Who, Steptoe, Tony Hancock and the Sopranos. Not necessarily in that order. And mainly The Beatles if truth be told.

I’m sure I say this every seven years, but the UP series is bloody brilliant TV. Poignant, uplifting and staggering in its ambition. We won’t see its like again. #70UP

You Can’t Do That is - in the parlance of the young folk - a true banger. A local pub band used to have this as a regular in their set - it always went down a storm. #harddays26

I absolutely love Things We Said Today. A Macca songwriting highlight on a Lennon-dominated album, though I’ve never been entirely sold on the double-tracked vocal. #harddays26

Tell Me Why - another song that would have been a significant hit for a lesser band than The Beatles: here it’s another (great) also-ran. #harddays26

Momma Gets By - A song that’s got under my skin more and more as the weeks have gone by. ‘She loves him…’ Yep. Got me again, Macca. 😭 #dungeonlane

Salesman Saint - Bloody love Giles Martin’s 40s-style arrangement on this one. It elevates a good track into something a bit special. #dungeonlane

First Star of the Night - It’s sweet, isn’t it? ‘And I know my little world is still alright…’ It’s what you need to hear and feel every now and then. Clever old Macca. #dungeonlane

Life Can Be Hard - Can’t stop whistling this one. If this wasn’t originally intended for the stage version of It’s A Wonderful Life, I’m George Bailey. #dungeonlane

Home To Us - Enjoy this one more on every play. It’s Paul McCartney. It’s Ringo Starr. It’s got a great guitar solo. Puts a smile on my face every time I play it. #dungeonlane

Never Know - An early favourite. Love the Atom Heart Morher-era backing vocals. Actually, I love everything about this track one. Quintessential Macca. #dungeonlane

Come Inside - Not the album highlight, but a great side opener and a song begging to be added to the live setlist. #dungeonlane

We Two - Oddly, this seems to be the least-loved song on the album, but I really can’t get enough of it. Deceptively simple, classic Macca. Give me more of that four-track, lads! #dungeonlane

Down South - Solid song, but one middle-eight short of a cracker. (That absence hasn’t stopped me humming it most of today.) #dungeonlane

Mountain Top - Love this. Almost 60 years on from Pepper, Macca continues to embrace the psychedelic. Some marvellous moments here, even if I can’t understand what Nancy says at the end… #dungeonlane

Short, but sweet. Another great Ringo/T-Bone collab. I’ll be spinning it again this weekend. Thanks again to you all for your company and, as always, @johnp69.bsky.social for organising. See you shortly on Dungeon Lane? #longlongroad

And so, I reach the end - for now - of the McCartney solo catalogue. 2020 hit, and Macca once again bunkered down in the studio on his own, experimenting, having fun and knocking out some great songs. What a journey! Bring on Dungeon Lane! #paulmccartney #nowplaying

2018 - Macca releases another very strong album, Egypt Station. Some of the bonus tracks that appeared on later versions of the album (or as singles) were arguably better than a couple of the tracks that made the album listing, but I’ve few complaints. Another top release! #paulmccartney #nowplaying

2013 saw Macca release his new album called, erm, New. Employing a range of producers and styles, it somehow still feels cohesive. Shame he didn’t use Mark Ronson more; the two songs he produced - Alligator and the title track - are my highlights on this one. #paulmccartney #nowplaying

2012 saw Macca release an album of standards (with a couple of new numbers thrown in for good measure). Pleasant enough, beautifully produced, but an inessential release - though worth picking up for ‘My Valentine’, a song that holds its own amongst the standards. #paulmccartney #nowplaying

Just two years on from Chaos, and Macca gets back with producer David Kahne and releases Memory Almost Full, another very strong album with some of the last great Macca rock vocals. Mr Bellamy remains one of my favourite ever McCartney oddities. #paulmccartney #nowplaying

Macca enters the 21st century with Driving Rain (2001), his worst-charting album. Some great tracks on here, but it’s a good 3 or 4 songs too long, and the less said about Freedom the better… ironically, Heather is the one of the best tracks on the album! #paulmccartney #nowplaying

So, that’s the studio albums of the 80s and 90s revisited. Starts well, ends well, with a few bumps in the middle. There’s something to appreciate on every one of these albums; all are worth a spin, and several of them are long overdue a reevaluation. Next stop, Driving Rain… #paulmccartney

The Macca solo journey reaches the end of the 20th century with Run Devil Run, a collection of rock and roll classics (and a couple of originals in the same vein) recorded in the wake of the loss of Linda. Macca’s in fine voice. Well worth a revisit. #paulmccartney #nowplaying

I’m double-billing Macca today with 1997’s Flaming Pie. Revitalised by the Beatles Anthology project, Flaming Pie saw Macca knock out some of his best work in years with a little help from Ringo, Jeff Lynne and George Martin. An essential Macca album! #paulmccartney #nowplaying

1993 brought us Off the Ground, Macca’s first album of the decade. Mostly recorded ‘as live’ with his touring band, it spawned a global hit with Hope of Deliverance, but many of the better tracks from the sessions ended up as b and c sides on the singles from the album. #paulmccartbey #nowplaying

Was 1989’s Flowers in the Dirt the first Macca album to get the ‘return to form’ reviews in the music press? Whatever, it’s an album bursting with confidence and some cracking songs. The energetic opening track - My Brave Face - is one of my favourite Macca tracks ever! #paulmccartney #nowplaying

The journey reaches 1986 and Macca’s least-loved album, Press to Play. Whenever I revisit this album, I enjoy it more. The Padgham production wasn’t a good fit for Macca, but I admire the experimentation and there are some great, neglected tracks on here. Bring on a remix! #paulmccartney #nowplaying

1984 brought the soundtrack album Give My Regards to Broad Street. This one seems to be hated by many, but this was my first Macca album and I didn’t know the Beatle originals well enough to be offended by the cover versions! No More Lonely Nights remains a solo highlight. #paulmccartney #nowplaying
