Thinking back to how great it was when Spurs had a few academy players in the team and squad

Chris I’Anson-Miller @windycoys.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

We had a conv on the pod about the pivot & talked about RDZ’s motivations & one thing that occurred to me afterwards was that in Bentancur/Tonali he’s got a short/long distances combination (in possession) & maybe he feels Fernandes/Bentancur is too short distance coded (& he can’t do without Bent).

Growing ‘RDZ out’ sentiment building, the fragility comments did not help… feels like a lack of accountability I guess?

Game state obviously a huge factor but our first two PL goals of the season came after the starting pivot was replaced.

I need to hear that Fernandes had a knock otherwise that sub is completely indefensible.

I feel in such a weird place with Spurs. After the relative upward trajectory of the run-in, full squad reset, decent pre-season results, and players returning from injury I felt positive going into this season. Especially considering there are so many other clubs in transition.

Tyrese Hall is going to be MOTM in game after game at U21 level this season and every time I’m going to be thinking: what’s the point? Both he and the club need to question how it’s come to this, a player of his quality playing at that level at this stage of his development.

Chris I’Anson-Miller @windycoys.bsky.social · 30/08/2026

I just think having actual good wingers will change everything. I’m not too worried.

Chris I’Anson-Miller @windycoys.bsky.social · 27/08/2026

Suddenly feels like we have viable options & I'm not sure what our team will look like (personnel or shape) for the next few. Makes a refreshing change from knowing *exactly* what the XI will be & hating it. Thought Moore cooked last night, has put himself in contention for w/e.

Chris I’Anson-Miller @windycoys.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

I don’t have as many generalised concerns as others from yesterday, and I’m certainly not bought into the dooming, as I think fundamentally this was just a case of one team’s intensity being about as high as you can get at this stage of the season. And the other unprepared.

4240

Chris I’Anson-Miller @windycoys.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

That went about as badly as it could have done, no point dwelling on it too much as half the team will be different for the next PL match.

Barely three minutes in and U18s making a back three in build-up, baiting the press and playing through the lines. Interesting they’re taking the RDZ approach at that level. Not something we’ve done consistently over the last few years.

Chris I’Anson-Miller @windycoys.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

Kinda wild that we've sold our club captain and one of our best players of the last few years and it's met with a shrug by the majority of the fanbase. Even his biggest defenders (and I include myself in that) had become sick of him on and off the pitch.

I’ve been really enjoying our work in the window so far but I’m not into Balogun as a signing at all. Gooner and not that good is a horrible combination.

Had such a wonderful time at The Extra Inch live show last night. Though it was very late night for a sleep deprived old man. I eventually got to bed around midnight and my daughter woke me at 4:55 saying ‘daddy… poo… daddy’. 😑

I said on @theextrainch.bsky.social this week I think Donley could be a useful lock unpicker to have on the bench, when you see him against our other midfielders you can really see the enhanced passing ability he offers, albeit so far against poor quality opposition.

Touring squad. WC players get additional time off (though not Bergvall?). Kudus, Simons, Kulusevski and Odobert - rehabilitation. Vicario ‘sustained a minor knock’ 🤨 Byfield and Olusesi reportedly injured, though Olusesi I believe is also about to be sold. Sousa must be on the cusp of a move.

Daniel levy is the reason we’re able to have a window like this and also under Levy we would never have had a window like this. The Levy Conundrum.

So far this window we’ve seen how our execs operate with much blanker cheques in terms of fees and wage structure and we’ve been purposeful. But that’s the easy bit. We’re about to see what we do when there’s a hold up.

We've not released our player update yet (released players, academy extensions/pro contracts) and the suspicious part of my wonders if it's because there are some contract negotiations ongoing. For reference, last year we published it on 31 May

I am doing some prep for our squad review pod this weekend. This is a visualisation of the age profile of the squad that I include in our notes. I'll share a similar one on contract length when I have updated it.

I think we’re going to sign Harry Wilson and I think some people are going to be furious about it and some people are going to think it’s an amazing signing. I’m somewhere in the middle on it, knowing full well that centrists are the worst.

Which surprising player exits do you think we might see this summer? I’m not talking about the ones we all know and constantly discuss leaving. One that will make you do this.

Chris I’Anson-Miller @windycoys.bsky.social · 24/05/2026

Relief. That we are safe, that the season’s over, that I never have to watch Kolo Muani in a Spurs shirt again.

Tbh I do think serious questions need to be asked of De Zerbi re continually picking Kolo Muani. I know the alternatives are few and far between but there are alternatives. Rarely seen a player play as bad for as long and keep his place. Spence RW Sunday please.

Sort of ridiculous how much better Maddison looked, after a year out, than our other front third options.

I think Porro was the canary in the coal mine this season - Frank had this cultured passer punting balls up the line for Kudus and co, De Zerbi immediately has him stepping inside and playing one and two touch passes. He’s a quality player who has been made to look like a clogger.

A vaguely competent winger on the pitch and that scoreline is totally different. Created so many appetising 1v1 situations. Exciting.

In all seriousness, tonight's performance was kind of what I expected Thomas Frank to deliver consistently for us. I am an idiot. (I'll expand more on the pod tomorrow.)

Possessing the football is a hell of a drug. You should try it sometime, Thomas Frank, you neek.
