I still have some hope for one more album or two from #Gandalf. I really, really liked his last one. But let's face it: he's getting old. He published his memories fifteen years ago.

Now, if only Zombie Hyperdrive would make a new album I would be downright ecstatic. But I'm afraid I've almost given up hope here. #zombiehyperdrive #synthwave

There is a new #Mind.in.a.Box album out! At least one of my favourite musicians keeps on releasing quality stuff. This album sounds surprisingly smooth, with the storytelling less in the forefront. Some tracks sound downright poppy. Not that I'm complaining.

Jimmie Driftwood: The Westward Movement I am indifferent to Country Music and I don't like romanticised Wild West. But that one hit hard for its nostalgic value. Belonged to my grandmother. I listened to it when I was five years old. I still like it. My oldest #vinyl record. #NowListening

All I could think of is Maester Aemon's quote "Love is the death of duty". Well, it makes it hard at least.

Last week I purchased this Russ Ballard CD in a second hand shop. I have to say, I have never listened to an album that, to me, sounded as nostalgically #80s as this one.

Sadly I looked up what Gabriel Rosenstock was up to currently and to my horror I learned that he has died recently! I can't tell you how important I think he was to the Irish language. His translations of Asterix and Tintin alone with worth so much for learners of Irish.

I laughed today when I read the synopsis for the irish version of Tintin "The Black Island"! Really, did Gabriel Rosenstock (the translator) translate it from Welsh?! Interesting: My Irish is still very weak but I could almost read those three words. Shows both are Celtic, even if distant. #Gaeilge

"The Wyvern's Spur" is the only old #ad&d novel I still own. Because it has a special place in my heart. Easy English, easy to understand and advice all: it was fun! It helped me so much learning English. The tone and dialogues were so light-hearted. That it was only a side-story also helped.

"Ergen Deda" is a piece of bulgarian folk music that Youtube recommended to me for whatever reason. While this kind of folk music is nothing I would listen to on a daily basis, I find that style absolutely fascinating. www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4iF...

One that I noticed myself without reading comments. I only recently discovered "Amorphis". I am impressed how this Heavy Metal band that makes such catchy and melodic songs, given their origin is in Death Metal and you still can hear it now and then. "The Lantern" www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp4m...

Remember "Animusic"? This is such a great piece of 3D animation history! One of my favourits (along with "Resonant Chamber" and "Pogo Sticks") is their track "Starship Groove". One of the big problems of 4/7 music is that whenever I listen to it, I start counting! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPwb...

Probably the most famous 7/4 song is Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel. It should not be surprising because he came from a prog rock band, but this is not prog rock. This is a melodic song that makes you feel good! www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OO2...

I love songs that are in a 7/4 or 7/8 meter, especially if they make it work to a degree that you don't immediately recognise that something is out of the ordinary. It is such a shame that most modern music is so fixated on 4/4 that even a 3/4 or 6/8 has become uncommon.

Living and Europe and suffering from the strongest heat wave in recorded human history allowed me to check. It is 37°C outside and my car is standing in the sun. The CD player still works. And I think this is the worst case scenario for any CD player.

I don't believe it. The CD player in my car still works in full sunlight in summer. How hot does it have to get?

Why not a perfect ending? Both the Jax and Caine exposition took up way too much time. Not that I didn't like it, but it took away too much screentime from all the others who had barely time to act. Also: The real-life revelation was too fan-servicy to me. Basically all were happy in the end.

windsaw.bsky.social @windsaw.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
I loved the bittersweet ending. I would have been disappointed if the series had a classical happy end like many wanted. The series wasn't moving into that direction right from the start, so such a happy end would have felt forced to me.

And finally: Jax' gender issue. Even watching it till the end, I didn't see it. I only got it through comments later. Now that I know it, it makes sense. Maybe I will rewatch it someday, then it will be obvious. Did I need it? No. Did it take anything away? I don't think so either.

Then there was Jax abstracting. I was surprised to see how many didn't immediately notice that the Abstract was Jax. It seemed obvious to me. I think many didn't like that it happened offscreen. I say: Abstracting is basically suicide. I really don't need to see the suicide happen in movies!

First: The implications of the brain scan revelation. I thought this was an option since episode 5, where Jax was turned into a vegan. So I wasn't surprised. But many viewers apparently struggled to get it. So it was a gambit, not spelling it out loud for everybody.

I don't think it had a perfect ending, but the last episode an 8/10 tending to 9. Why tending to 9? Because I realized how Gooseworx trusted the audience and didn't dumb it down. In this episodes, there were three important plot points you have to think about to get. I got two of them.

With the last episode now out for all, here some of my thoughts about "The Amazing Digital Circus" At first, I didn't like it. Too hectic. Too loud. Other series like that have turned me away before. What got me back were comments by others who pointed out details I missed. #tadc

It's funny that out of all of the speakers I only recognize Pomni's voice just by listening to their everyday conversational voice. That's voice actors, I guess. Voicing different characters is what they do.

I now saw episode 9 of The Amazing Digital Circus. My rating is 8/10, which means it was not a banger, but "just" a satisfying conclusion to a great series. I would like to go into the one thing that I disliked that prevented me from giving it a 9, but that could be spoilers.

To me, Alan Davis has always been one of the few superhero comic artists who not only was a great visual storyteller but also succeeded in making his art look beautiful. Unfortunately his style seemed to fall out of favour with the advent of digital colouring.

Literally fifteen minutes ago I talked to my sister about the illustrated "The Hobbit" with the oversized Gollum by Tove Jameson. And now this pops up. Sometimes you really get the impression that your smartphone watches you all of the time. But in this case it is really just coincidence.

I was the only one I know who didn't think it was bad. Sure, it had some problems. But it also has some absolutely awesome scenes and more could have been made out of it.
