It's crazy to think that since 2007, this little whatever-he-isn't would finally surface as his own character in a fighting game I've dreamed of making since I was a kid. Crazy how that works, right? He was greatly inspired by my favorite comedians and cartoon characters that can do whatever.

This next post is quite an emotional ride to me. Seeing that Enigma is expected for Handmade Melee, I suppose I should tell his story. Enigma was my childhood creation and the first thing I ever drew. For a long time, I have wanted him in a project of mine, and he finally got his chance in HMM.

Athor and Wach were literal life saviors for me and my mental. Without them, Handmade Melee wouldn't be here today, and frankly, I'm not sure if I would have either. It's really nice to have people in your life who look out for you and help you.

Believe it or not, I've actually worked on several indie games such as Super Smash Bros Crusade for a little bit of time, and while working with them, I was constantly bullied and put down by several higher ups. However, through that awful experience, I got to meet these two wonderful people.

Design wise, he's certainly had changes going from WAY early into his life to today. While I don't have any of the original drawings I had for him, there is some lost media like for example how back in the earliest days, there was a mermaid who was meant to accompany him, but was scrapped.

Early concept for a mermaid from a fan made ClayFighter project before even ReSculpted.

Regarding inspirations, Slamu really started off as just "whale wrestler" until the idea for him becoming a pirate was introduced. As a way of motivation, I had revisited many childhood favorites of mine to get a good feel for what we wanted. Also, Alestorm helped a LOT. Give them a listen!

Who doesn't love pirates? Slamu was sort of a combination of ideas floating in my head for some time now, and the team actually helped push this character forward. What's even crazier, the character wasn't even a pirate originally! Sorta feel like a moron for that to this day.

Something else that changed a lot from RS to HMM is how much Miss Merizing's design was patched up to make her look smoother and overall visually pleasing in an adorable fashion. I like to think we nailed it.

I suppose I'll start with the magical puppet, Miss Merizing. She was originally pitched as a ClayFighter OC, which became her own character (which honestly was for the best). I was greatly inspired by Disney's and Tatsunoko's take on the character. I was also partly inspired by Sailor Moon.
