One of those overbred puglike dogs has just come into the coffee shop I’m in. It’s breathing so fast and so loudly. Poor wee thing must be permanently exhausted with the effort it’s having to make.

I’ve got a massive bottle of the stuff in the house which was a Christmas gift from management at the evil broker company I used to work for in my evil city past. Honestly prefer Prosecco. Champagne tastes very sharp to me. I am an oik tho. Can it go off?

Always regret traveling by train rather than driving. Today is one of those days. Winchester to Leeds - first leg already late so will miss Birmingham connection. This is the rule, not the exception. Why is rail so effing shite in this country? And the price is extortionate.

If you can bear it, give the Newsagents podcast on the conference a listen. I'm very lukewarm about that podcast but this one was pretty good. By good I mean "this is all pretty terrible but I'm glad I know." If we had a form of PR I'd thought of putting Green as second preference. Not now.

I was disappointed that I didn't have the butterfly emerging from a chrysalis moment with it which some people on OA forums have experienced. But agree with your wife. QoL is massively improved. The NHS refuse to offer the John Hurt alien mask option and it's a disgrace.

Also terrifying your partner when you suddenly stop breathing and appear to be dead. Anyway, long story short - get it check if you have any of those symptoms. Your body will thank you. don't think it only happens to obese men in their 60s. That's a myth. Get it checked. Right, I'll shut up now

You won't wake up the next morning feeling the best you've ever felt - well, I didn't and still don't. Many do though. But you won't wake up with a mouth like cardboard and there'll be less brain fog. And your brain does recover, apparently. Dry mouth is the giveaway.

It's bad for your heart, lungs, brain and gums. If you can breathe through your nose as I can (apart from this week), nasal masks are no more tricksy than putting a baseball cap on, and they're really light. You don't have to look like a WWII pilot.

It took me 18 months to get used to it and I swore blind I was going to give up as I ripped the bastard alien thing off my face at 2am. But got there eventually. No more dry mouth, no more bpm of 120 when you think you're asleep, no more oxygen sat as low as 78%. You don't want that, trust me.

Had four days off cpap due to being completely congested and it's been horrible. Last night I was able to put the mask on again and I feel human today. PSA and all that - if you think you have OSA go get it checked out. You're literally starving your brain of oxygen and that is not good.

Yeah, I started off (2024) thinking Starmer was justified in pointing out how bad things were because…they were/are. But eventually it wears you down. Offer something - anything, even if it’s small, and avoid all the slagging off. So tired of it.

Also I don't think they had playstations in 1920s rural Ireland so what else would my grandparents be doing in the evening but making disparaging comments about their cousins down the road. My mother was the absolute Queen at this sort of thing. Bedtime stories were "bad things your cousins did"

Yes, I think that's the thing. My son doesn't really know this stuff. He met my mother often but he doesn't have a clue what her maiden name was. There wasn't much fragmentation (apart from the famine diaspora) until recently.

5 each. They all came from within the same three or four Irish parishes and everyone knew each other. The oral tradition is very useful since a lot of Irish records were lost during the civil war. It always used to baffle me when people would say "don't know who my great gran was."
