Just mutually dissociated with someone for the first time, didn't even realise what was happening until a ways in. That was interesting to say the least.

Oh, and, there's a BIG ol' cycle coming up. That's pretty obvious too.

FRED is an amazing resource. What I notice in particular from how covid affected many measures, is that the economy is incredibly resilient to external shocks like, say, a global pandemic, but is completely beholden to its own cyclicality.

Why do we assume everyone should be working? - Wilsons Blog

It's wild to me that people aren't up in arms from the findings of Acemoglu and Restrepo 2026.

My prediction: a significant crash, probably around September/October, that we will not be able to recover from without a new model for the economy.

When Henry George wrote his book, he wrote it at a time we needed it the least. Now we need it dearly. It's time we try something new, by trying something old.

A New-ish Theory of Economics - Wilsons Blog
Hi. I’ve thought about this idea for a while, and I think it’s come together almost to completion so, here it is. It’s somewhat related to Georgist theory but a bit different, you’ll see. It’s mostly ...

You shouldn't charge for anything vibecoded. Not because "ai bad" or whatever, but because: if you can vibe code it, your customer could vibe code it, and they know what they need better. Let them work it out, the economy will be better for it.

That's 50 years of market distortion. The possible damage is vast. I believe this is one of the culprits behind the great stagnation.

Stella @wilsoniumite.com · 13/06/2026
This is currently the world for labor. 60% of GDP goes to labor. Now, labor is of course still very important to production, but working hours and wages disconnected from productivity 50 years ago.

Now imagine that iron is 60% of the economy. Not necessarily because it should be, but because we forced it to be there.
100 1
Stella @wilsoniumite.com · 13/06/2026
The economy itself, through consumption, was linked to iron production. If iron production dropped, so did consumption, and the economy would crash.

Stella @wilsoniumite.com · 13/06/2026
Imagine a good like iron ore, except every country in the world maximised it's output. Policies were designed to mine iron. Mines were shamed if they weren't maximising their output of iron. Iron was put onto the market regardless of the price because we had to sell as much iron as possible.

Labor is a market distortion 🧵: Labor, in economic terms, is a good. People offer their labor (supply) and workplaces create jobs (demand). Except, the supply of labor is forced.

Perhaps one of the best pictures of Hubble I ever took
The face of a grey cat resting their head on their white paws while lying down on a bed. Their eyes look off to the right, past the camera.

Considering how long it's had to evolve, and how many functions it had to develop first, advanced reasoning is really just the brains side gig.

Evolution put in all this effort for facial expressions and voice intonation along with special parts of our brains to interpret those and yet we just absolutely had to go off and develop writing.

A quick search on Google Books for "land reclamation" gives me "On the Reclamation and Protection of Agricultural Land" by David Stevenson and that refers to some small scale, genuine "reclamation" operations, filling in space lost to tide and waves, and then how to protect it in future.
