Something I realized this weekend: we should have a more charitable reading of the folks in our orbit that have a totally different understanding not just of this man but of any figure that is mostly known via social media imagery. We literally are seeing totally different characters.

Yeah. It’s drastically different. I’ve never seen anything with the volatility that prices experienced for today’s matches. Friday night went nuclear when Alcaraz won. Then they announced at 1am Thursday morning he would be day session. So the day session went nuclear and night session died.

Banks keeping the spread between mortgage rates and the 10 year treasury at levels never seen before. That’s going to become a political issue for trump. He will say something negative about them and try to force them to tighten it up. But banks worried about too much refinancing here.

That’s where this is different. The Big 6 have the earnings and growth to justify the valuations. In the late 90s it was all speculation about what would come. And they were right they were just way too early. Same thing happened with housing in 03-07. Speculators Right bit too early & blew up!

Sitting in Costco parking lot. Daughter napping in back. I started with a 97% state of charge yesterday, did 105 miles with a trailer (don’t ask), another 52 miles without, and ran a tailgate (fans, slow cooker, hot dog roller, interior AC) off my truck for four hours. Yeah that’s a good point. The vast majority of these between I-16 and the GL/FL line didn’t exist a year ago. I used to really have to think that trip through. When I drove down to delivery supplies after the hurricane, it got really dicey.

Remember about a decade ago when Amazon would announce they would be exploring getting into some new product/service and whatever company already did that thing their stock would crater on the news. I think it’s similar now with trump. Anything he focuses on sinks. When he moves on it goes back up.

1. ‘21 was epic. Covid over. Braves & UGA championships. 2. ‘00 seemed great. High school was over. College life began. The political world had that West Wing feel that ended on 9-11. 3. ‘15 we had mostly recovered from the GFC. War on terror was mostly over. 4. ‘22, despite market 5. 07??🤷‍♂️

I kinda think it will be early next year. After Fed cuts rates and spreads tighten a bit more. My hypothesis is it will be the other way around. Housing re-acceleration might send the experience-economy spend into a recession.

So what next? I think Sept sells off. We now have duties priced into the market but it’s significantly overpriced vs what we are paying in physical markets. In fact, the CoT report shows a *massive* commercial short position as a % of open interest at 72%. Are you smarter than the smart money?

I’ve been surprised to see September lumber futures grind higher over the past 3 weeks. With July futures expiring so soft (basically going off near the post tariff sell-off in May), I thought we’d see Sept chase the weak July expiration. But it has just slowly posted higher gains.
