Hmmm, but surely the US strategy is increasing their domestic vehicle manufacturing and exports while China's are decreasing...I wonder what those charts show?

Why is the byline on the story 'CBC News'? I don't know if I've ever seen a CBC article without the author's name attached. Seems like their policies contradict here, and the lack of byline means it's just info cobbled together from various sources

One bit of feedback - the energy per car units seem off, should that be MWh instead of kWh?

This is a super silly take. Canada's governments have never had a credible plan to replace oil and gas with wind and solar. They have been intentional laggards due to O&G influence. The UK, Australia, Denmark, Germany China, and others are well on their way, though. Those are our customers

It's not a matter of liking it or not, it's a matter of understanding that garbage inputs into a model create garbage outputs. This model assumes wind and solar ratios are the same in the future, while in reality SA solar is growing faster, which will prevent the level of charge shortfall shown.

I'm guessing this was the image they had in mind, and then simplified the wires to the point that they don't even connect:

It's limited to crown corps and similar muni/FN owned orgs, pension funds and the CIB. Otherwise, non-profits and ministries are excluded. The summary pages are vague but the final Clean Electricity ITC legislation refers to the specific entity types in the Income Tax Act that it applies to.

But overall, 50% is achievable in the long run. Regardless, the point was more to show that efficiencies, higher string voltages, and similar module innovations can still reduce balance of system costs even if module cost becomes negligible

Just because your corporate donor list isn't anonymous doesn't mean you're not an astroturf group. You're cosplaying as citizens concerned about affordability/dependability but are mostly corporate interests looking to profit off of gas (or get jobs in it). journals.sagepub.com/doi/epub/10....

Here's the table if anyone wants the original source (IPCC AR5 Annex III). The upper bounds for hydro is higher than any other source, even though the median is very low. It really needs to be evaluated case-by-case, with an eye on methane/short-term impacts, which the Crown utils likely don't do

Can confirm, the process is terrible: -confusing information update required for access to the verification website (requirement later dropped) -access to the verification process takes up to 2 days after the initial request (I had to request twice) -confirmation after unclear (see screenshot)

This graph shows how unserious we are about being an 'energy superpower' in the 21st century. In 20 years, the oil and gas export trendlines are going to be the inverse of this. ourworldindata.org/grapher/shar...

And unless Europe and China both kill their accelerating energy transitions, they're building for a market that doesn't exist. Output from LNG plants already under construction is way bigger than expected demand, even without additional climate action.

Where is this LNG market you're talking about? Is it still going to be growing in 5+ years after another pipeline is built? Overbuilding infrastructure isn't a good economic strategy. The plants already under construction exceed the forecast demand until gas use starts to decline in the 2030s

Global gas (and oil) markets will almost certainly peak and start to decline by 2030. Even the IEA says so, for their lowest low-renewables scenario. And they have a history of wildly under-forecasting solar. It makes no sense for Canada to build pipelines that will open to shrinking demand.

Here are the charts. China's EV sales up 10x, car exports up 6x. Hard to make the case for more oil export investment in this context. Outside of the US, these trends are accelerating. These are the types of markets our export policy should be tailored to.

Seems like the new NEMA standard is basically them explaining this point for inspectors & utilities. It's great that V2G-AC is included in the standards and all, but I'd be willing to bet you'll never see such a creature in the wild - it's effectively just a red herring to confuse the AHJs.

We should build project pipelines for the energy sources with a fast-growing, multi-trillion-dollar market; not physical pipelines to chase a declining market, which will only increase our pain during the next oil price crash. Unfortunately, the shills have a bigger pulpit than the realists.

Before we rush to put our scarce investment dollars into pipelines, which take a decade to build and cost $35 billion apiece, let's think about where the real growth markets are. It's time to truly diversify our markets, make like Canadians, and skate to where the puck is going. #cdnpoli #bcpoli

The LCOE of these is incredibly low. Yield is a bit less, but these can cost less an a Euro per watt. No labour, no BOS costs, no permitting, minimal wiring and mounting hardware.

Another is accelerated depreciation cost due to an expected transition away from gas. This was actually noted in the commission filings, but as a future possibility and not a contributor to the present increase.

One more clarification, because GM's documentation is super confusing: 11.5kW is the inverter output and short term surge capacity is even higher, 9.6kW is the rated continuous output of the batteries to the house. Spec sheet attached.

Sounds like it might be time for a citizens' movement to un-designate cis-labeled bathrooms, so that trans folks can't be prosecuted for 'knowingly' using them. Here's an all gender restroom label brought to you by the Uihleins - print a few of these as stickers and help protect your neighbors.
