Anyone alive in the eighties who would voluntarily enter something called Threads really has to question their judgement.

First film of the night. Not watched it since I went to the pictures to see it in the late eighties. I'm sure it will be entirely unproblematic.

About 10-15 minutes fron Notre Dame is Bouillon Racine. This restaurant tries to stay very traditional and is not so expensive for where it is (€40 for the a la carte). I didn't have it, but I'm told that the Creme Brulet is amazing. maps.app.goo.gl/5xxuFE4EYnP2...

Spending my Sunday writing a proposal for work. Listening to the Conan soundtrack to help me power through. To crush my funding body, see them driven before me and hear the lamentations of their spreadsheets.

To those of you in the UK, if you have local elections today, don't forget to vote. Also, don't forget your photo id otherwise they'll send you away. If you're in the Runcorn area, there's a parliamentary by election which would benefit from a good turn out.

Had a fun time at the Dragonmeet event yesterday. My I-Spy Grogs book was sparse, but of outstanding quality @pookie-uk.bsky.social, Niamh and Robert Carnel (both of whom I should be following but can't find). My non-grog highlight of the day was playing Battletech Alpha Strike

I have devoured this book over the last few days. It could use an edit, but I'm a sucker for cast and crew stuff like this. It's pretty much all in their own words, so expect the odd bit of "old fashioned" attitude and language.

Part 2 of my power armour trilogy reread. Published 16 years later than Starship Troopers, but feels 50 years more contemporary. Nice levels of science without looking like an inserted lecture, good action, great on the big ideas. Are the other books worth a go? Next John Steakley's Armor.

Phase one of the power armour triumvirate (Starship Troopers, The Forever War and Armor) reread. I now find Heinlein a bit "dad at the dinner table" on politics and military matters, but the man could write. Onto the definitive version of Forever War (not what I read as a kid)
