Could the piece be talking about worse software design? If AI results in less engaged devs with less of an overall feeling for the software, then you can see how the design can be worse. I feel like with time we'll find new ways of working to avoid this, but I def have some sympathy for this view.
"Upon reflection, I've come to believe that quality software is not about how many features something has or how quickly it is built but rather how cared for it is by the designers, developers, and product people who work on it. There's an ineffable aspect to my favorite pieces of software where I don't think of it is as feature matrix but rather as an interface made by a human for humans that's a joy to use. And when you build software with AI, it leads to worse software. Sure, it's faster to build initially, but I think to the detriment of the quality of the code and the user interface and the user experience."

I've only skimmed the paper but this looks pretty impressive!

New preprint! Our workflow for processing single cell and nuclei data, called 🎉 scprocess 🎉 We have been working on it for ~18 months now, over which time we have processed at least 2k samples with it, so it has had a decent amount of testing.
Cute logo for the package scprocess, showing a cartoon of 3 cells being unpacked from a box labelled with a barcode, and loaded onto a conveyor belt. The colour scheme is purple, dark blue and mustard.

This plot shows pairwise QC metrics of a brain sn sample. The hi-spliced-hi-MT and low-spliced-mixed-MT clusters are clearly very distinct. We see this consistently across samples/studies/tissues (in sn data, sc is a bit different). I think this effect is much bigger than natural variation...

I approve of this, however I would make a tweak: I think pct data in biology is ~always easier to understand with a logistic transform. The plot shows QC metrics of a brain single nuclei sample. The mito pct vs spliced pct makes the point of your paper especially clear :D
Pairwise plot of QC metrics from a single nuclei RNA seq experiment, showing the distributions of the different metrics.
