We survived another brutal summer in Texas, but we need to learn how ERCOT has changed to be ready for the future.

New weekly petroleum data for last week (9/18/2026) SPR dropped by 0.4 million barrels commercial stockpiles rose by 3 million barrels. US refineries used 3.5 million less barrels for the week. With gasoline and diesel prices at all time highs, US refineries are processing less oil. 🤷

A few months ago, I expressed concern that natural gas storage levels were way behind 2025. And while storage levels are still below 2025, they aren’t falling to critical levels. Allow me to explain.

Attend an excellent presentation where James Bevill presented on his new book "Spies in Saigon". Lots of books have been written about what happened after US troops were in Vietnam, but Bevill instead takes to the early 1950s as the CIA begin covert operations. www.amazon.com/Spies-Saigon...

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve dropped by 6.1 million barrels and US crude oil imports-exports rose by 12.4 million barrels. We sold less oil, imported more, and transferred a lot from the SPR. This is not energy independence, but reckless foreign and domestic policy. (2/2)

We have had troops in the conflict for five months and they are getting tired. The ships are getting to a point where they need maintenance. Hegseth and Trump have forgotten the first rule of war - logistics matters most. The old adage is amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics.

Sign a deal no matter how bad it is that allows Trump to declare victory and leave the strait and Iran to be someone else’s problem. Send in the Marines on the eastern side of the strait. Start the required land war that can really break the Iranians, cause an air war was never going to be enough.

#HormuzStrait - At this point it is one of three options - Blockade and strike till Iran finally concedes, the problem is they are showing an ability to take a lot of punishment. And to deal a lot of punishment to the surrounding Gulf states.

Trump can't play around with Iran. There is a ticking clock and that is US oil stockpiles. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve and the commercial stockpiles and together they are the US Crude stockpile. EIA announced that last Friday - 7/24/26 that was 712.2 million barrels.

Think of it as the measure of how hard your air conditioner has to work each month. Since 1973, the average per year has increased for the West South Central Region (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas). We haven't seen an August with less than 500 cooling degree days since 2004.
000
William Taggart @williamtaggart.org · 27/06/2026
Don't believe in Climate Change, your air conditioner does if you live in Texas. Cooling degree days are the number of degrees that the daily average temperature rises above 65 degrees Fahrenheit (°F) and the US Energy Information Administration tracks that information per month.

🚨 Pay Attention - US Natural Gas storage level are 49 billion cubic feet of natural gas less than last year and the trends show this will get worse. Natural gas prices are too low and this is not a good sign. In April, US storage was 142 BCF above last year, we are falling behind.

🚨 Pay Attention - Take a serious look at how much coverage the reflecting pool is getting and how much is being said about the fact we will be $40 trillion in national debt before we vote in November. We are not a serious country any more. #NationalDebt

Bombing won't do it. It will take soldiers denying the Iranians the ability to control the strait. And now we know, that is a price Trump isn't willing to pay, even though he started this.

The reality of the Strait of Hormuz. Bad news, Iran has discovered a way to control the world economy that gives them more power than a nuclear weapon. Don't like it - the only way the US can stop it is invade with ground troops and take the northern coast of the Strait. #hormuz #IranWar‌

The 340.3 million barrel level was on June 12th. The levels for June 19th won't be released until June 24th. Want to place bets - mine is we were at 331 million yesterday and worse total stockpile will be 740 million, that's commercial and SPR. 1984 levels when US population was 80% of today. #SPR

Republicans can claim that renewables are bad, but the growth of renewables within Texas has kept ERCOT from having blackouts. But Democrats are no better with their demonization of fossil fuels and payout of tax credits for renewables when we are trillions of dollars in national debt.

We don't have an energy policy. The Trump administration has paid out $2.5 billion taxpayer dollars to stop offshore wind projects. These were approved projects that could have generated megawatt-hours of electricity for America. #energypolicy

Fourth - Trump's lower of taxes is causing deficits to soar and increasing national debt, thereby causing the bond market to raise bond rates. Trump doesn't understand history, nor apparently do the people around him.
020
William Taggart @williamtaggart.org · 18/06/2026
Third - The Federal Reserve controlled interest rates and in 1928 raised from 4% to 6% to try and slow the massive stock market speculations where investors were borrowing on credit to buy stocks.
120
William Taggart @williamtaggart.org · 18/06/2026
First - Massive overvaluation of the stock market set the stage for the Great Depression, much as we see now with Tesla, SpaceX and the AI bubble being overvalued. Second - Hoover didn't raise taxes until 1932, long after the depression had started.

Trump at G7 - "... but the one I always thought of, Herbert Hoover, and he caused it. He raised taxes too fast, and he raised interest rates too fast, all at the same time. And it caused the Great Depression. So I don’t think I’ll make mistakes like that. I lower taxes. I don’t raise taxes."

Someone explain this to me. US Crude Oil stockpiles (Strategic Reserves and Commercial) dropped by 17.2 million barrels from June 5th to June 12th and oil price today is $77/barrel. 758 million barrels in US stockpiles is a level not seen since 1985, when US oil consumption 3/4 of what it is today.
010
William Taggart @williamtaggart.org · 16/06/2026
It isn’t the crashing polls, it’s the oil stockpiles being drained off. The recession they have been holding off is about to get triggered.
010
William Taggart @williamtaggart.org · 15/06/2026
The big problem - tax cuts have rewarded the top 1% and they have increased their share of US wealth by 7%, while the middle class lost 5% of their share. At the same time we ran up $35 trillion in national debt. I didn't see Obama or Biden do anything. And they ran up their share of the debt.
130
William Taggart @williamtaggart.org · 15/06/2026
The big underlying issue is that the tax code has shifted the burden from the wealthy to the middle class and the youth can't make ends meet.
020
William Taggart @williamtaggart.org · 15/06/2026
Ranked choice voting - love it, good luck getting it anywhere. We need to elect independent moderates to get that done. It's the primary system combined with gerrymandering which got us here. And unfortunately if you want minority majority districts, you have to create gerrymandering around them.

First - guns, confiscating does nothing. Gun deaths are a function of poverty, not ownership. Second - Medicare for all - sounds great, but how do you pay for it. And how do you fix the American diet causing high levels of obesity and diabetes which increases costs. williamtaggart.substack.com

The "right" isn't the right of old. My parents were Eisenhower Republicans and my father voted for Clinton in 2016 because he saw the threat of Trump. I left the Republican party in 2004 because a war in Iraq paid for with Iraqi oil (which is what some discussed) was too much.

Website is here - williamtaggart.org The extreme is $40 trillion national debt and Democrats talk about spending, but not about balancing the budget. The entire green energy effort was paid with tax credits when Biden at the time was $30 trillion in debt. I wrote a book - "Fixing America".
