underappreciated concept 🙂 for more dipoles: neighboring dipoles have different orientations & can have different stimulus preferences. so even though topographies look similar, subtle differences remain. maybe that's why it is possible to decode information from relatively few sensors?

The angle of the dipole obviously matters. If active dipoles in two conditions are slightly misaligned, a difference can be observed. However, this difference is not driven by differences in amplitudes, but only by differences in orientations. Here, I simulated such a scenario. #brainmovies

Some ripples result from filtering 1/f noise (because when you filter noise you always get oscillations). Somewhat expected, but nice to have it spelled out and thoroughly investigated.👍

I always learned a great deal from simulating data (aka mostly how things don't really work the way they are advertised 🙃). so I can definitely recommend playing with this toolbox for simulating EEG/MEG sources with desired properties (location, coupling) for connectivity. ⬇️

Nick (@willenjoy.bsky.social) is obsessed with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). And for good reason! It could explain many results. Our simulation toolbox meegsim enables setting up SNR of individual sources as well as SNR of all signal sources with respect to all noise sources. meegsim.readthedocs.io
