Here in Pingtung, it's coming on Christmas, they're cutting down trees, they're putting up reindeer…

It's been nice to have a day off, rambling out and about in the outskirts of Pingtung city.

Our local guardian deities here in Pingtung, Taiwan have been given a lick of paint, and now they are all spruced up and ready for the annual Pingtung Park Christmas Spectacular.

I'm not particularly into motorised road transport, but if I owned a car, I'd like it to be something like this.
Small car in the shape of a fish, blue with a big eye and gaping mouth, and some kind of crown. There are spines on its back, and trees in the background.

Important news from Taiwan. Meanwhile, I'm waiting for Keir Starmer to announce that, having stepped down, his top priority is starting an online competition to encourage people to carve mushrooms (or turnips? I feel that that Keir's a turnip guy) in his image.
Picture of Tsai Ing-wen, and a mushroom that looks somewhat like her. The text reads "Tsai Ing-wen loves her mushroom lookalikes so much she's started an online mushroom carving contest."

"Cats that wave their tails at you are delightful." Excellent content here in my textbook of literary #Burmese. This is the way to keep my interest while getting me to build sentences with relative clauses.

It has been great exploring Lukang with the writer Niu Er the Pig Butcher (殺豬的牛二 ... how's that for a pen name?). And this gem of temple art, as Spongebob takes his first tentative steps into the Taiwanese pantheon, is a thing of joy.

Things are looking up with Spinoza. After some tricky passages on the nature and origin of the mind, today’s hot topics are titillation and cheerfulness.
Text reading as follows;

Schol We see then that the mind can undergo considerable changes, and can pass now to a state of greater perfection, now to one of less perfection, and it is these passive transitions [passiones] that explicate for us the emotions of Pleasure [laetitia] and Pain [tristitia]. So in what follows I shall understand by pleasure "the passive transition of the mind to a state of greater perfection," and by pain "the passive transition of the mind to state of less perfec-tion." The emotion of pleasure when it is simultaneously related to mind and body I call Titillation [titillatio] or Cheerfulness [hilari-tas]; the emotion of pain when it is similarly related I call Anguish [dolor] or Melancholy [melancholia]. But be it noted that titillation and anguish are related to man when one part of him is affected more than others, cheerfulness and melancholy when all parts ar equally affected. As to Desire [cupiditas], I have explained what is in Schol. Pr. 9, III, and I acknowledge no primary emotion oth
hose three. But before
