I've been working on a one-of-a-kind custom sketchbook as my contribution to this year's @wildwonder.bsky.social fundraiser auction. I was glad I had it on me when we spotted something really amazing happening across the street...
Sketchbook spread documenting a BEE SWARM gathering in a karo tree across the street! What an amazing migration moment!

Have a great weekend friends! Stay cool and don't pee in pools! 🪶
Graphic with a photo of a Cooper's Hawk sitting in a bird bath. Text above says "That Awkward moment when you get in the pool and everyone else immediately gets out." A speech bubble from the hawk says: Hey Guys! Come back! I was just kidding about peeing in the pool. I swear!

Here's the clue for this week's #BitOBird game! Can you ID this bird from just this little bit? (Note: we stick to North American birds, if not we’ll tell you.) 1st to reply w/ the correct answer gets bird nerd bragging rights. If you're stumped, we'll post the answer in 2 hrs 🪶

An older comic about spring.
A four-panel comic. In panel 1, a great blue heron is reading a pink book that says "They lived at opposite ends of the pond. From afar, she admired his long plumes and excellent fishing technique." In panel 2, she's blushing and reading "One day he came flying toward her. Watching him approach, she wondered: What did he want? And was he... carrying something in his beak?" In panel 3, her feathers are ruffled, and she reads "Her heart skipped a beat as he landed beside her. Fluffing his neck feathers, he said those three special words:" In panel 4, she swoons, falling backwards, reading "Here's a stick."

Did you ask for a bird fact? No, but you're getting one whether you like it or not. 🪶
Photo of a Rufous Hummingbird by Mick Thompson. An arrow pointing to the birds feet is labeled "These feet aren't made for walking." Text on the graphic says: Unsolicited Bird Fact- Hummingbirds cannot walk or even hop! They use their teeny feet for perching & can shuffle sideways along a perch, but that's about it.
They are members of Apodimorphae- that's a taxonomic superorder, not a metal band. Apodimorphae roughly means "without feet."
