In early 2021, Mike Flaherty heard some awful news. Three pollution incidents had hit Lancashire’s River Tawd in one week, causing numerous fish deaths. Being passionate about wildlife and his local area, Mike decided to join a nature-focused community group called Friends of Tawd Valley 🧵1/6

This summer, we received a hugely thoughtful gift of £875 in memory of Gerald Mark Patterson. Mark sadly passed away this April, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. As we use this generous donation to create a brighter future for rivers, we want to celebrate Mark’s life and legacy.

Check out this fantastic habitat work by Cambridge Trout Club! 🐟 Our Conservation Officer Rob Mungovan met up with the club earlier this summer, to assist them with installing a new brash ledge. This woody material will add more marginal cover for fish, invertebrates, and water voles.

5.5 years ago, something exciting was starting on this stretch of Cosh Beck 🌳 After years of grazing and deforestation, this Yorkshire river was severely lacking in tree cover. This made it vulnerable to overheating during warm weather; a serious issue as we continue to experience hotter summers.

This delicate pink wildflower is called ragged-robin 🌸 It loves damp and boggy ground, so it can sometimes be seen growing on riverbanks. Adding fencing to this stretch of Hampshire's Bourne Rivulet has allowed native plants like this to flourish. All sorts of insects will be enjoying its nectar!
