Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 01/10/2026The microphones were placed in a shady area under a stand of flowering melaleuca (paperbark) trees and you can hear the sounds of various bird species come and go as they flutter and feed in the canopy above. In the background, birdsong can be heard from the surrounding wetland & woodland. 041
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I've published a 32 minute excerpt from the album "A Morning at Sweetwater Lagoon" on my Youtube channel. This album was recorded in Lakefield National Park, Cape York, Australia and features the sounds of a remote tropical lagoon early in the morning. youtu.be/dop2QimqGIY #soundscape #wildozyoutu.beTropical Wetland Soundscape - A Morning at Sweetwater Lagoon, AustraliaYouTube video by Wild Ambience 22810
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 24/09/2026These young emus took off in typical chaotic running style when I stopped the car, but then when I got out to take a photo their curiosity got the better of them & they cautiously crept back to have a look at the strange human sitting on the ground! #wildoz 0145
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Put some headphones on and enjoy this ethereal predawn soundscape. The fluty phrases of the Pied Butcherbird are sublime, like music floating across the arid plains. Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I've just released a new soundscape album "Australia: Outback Dawn" recorded in spring in Paroo-Darling NP, NSW which was alive with stunning wildflowers and plenty of birdlife after recent rain. Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Near our campsite in Pilliga National Park I came across this sweet little pair of Red-rumped Parrots having a bath in a stream. #wildoz 0517
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 22/07/2026One of the stranger sounds of the tundra and boreal forest in the far north. The comical calls of the Willow Ptarmigan, recorded in Dalarna County, Sweden. Such an unexpected and silly sound! #biodiversity #fieldrecording #sounds #bioacoustics 3368

Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 28/06/2026The superbly camouflaged Solomon Islands Leaf Frog (Cornufer guentheri). This remarkable frog species comes in an endless variety of patterns and colours. All of these photos were taken within a few hundred metres on Kolombangara, Solomon Islands. #biodiversity #herps 0154
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Not that I'm aware of! I did record & ID some cicada & cricket calls on the trip but I still don't know what this particular species sounds like. 🧐 110
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 24/06/2026It's a shame AI is making us question the authenticity of many things. There's so many beautiful, bizarre & wonderful creatures in the natural world to discover. 😊 2143
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 24/06/2026On a hike through the mossy montane forests of Kolombanagara, Solomon Islands, I found this incredible little grasshopper. This is a species from the genus Opiptacris, locals called them the 'rasta grasshopper'. It seems this taxon is endemic to this small island. #inverts #insects 1123449
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 23/06/2026The exotic sounds of a remote tropical island in the western Solomons. Tetepare is a sanctuary of undisturbed primary rainforest & is fringed by stunning coral reefs. I've just enjoyed 6 days here recording it's unique soundscapes & wildlife. #biodiversity #solomonislands #fieldrecording 4568
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 20/05/2026They get much bigger than this, but a beautiful specimen nonetheless! Australian Scrub Python (Simalia kinghorni) - Australia's longest species of snake. Atherton Tablelands, Queensland. #wildoz #snakes #herps 0233
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 19/05/2026I've seen them a few times over the years and never was able to ID them as they buzz around so fast, I only recently found out what they were! 010

Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 17/05/2026A cool Australian insect sound. Not a cricket, cicada or katydid - it's a male Common Whistling Moth (Hecatesia fenestrata)! They have special structures on the edge of their forewings to make these very unmothlike sounds while they buzz around in circles in to attract a mate! #wildoz #bioacoustics 25317
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 14/04/2026A dawn chorus from the tropical rainforest of Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range), Cape York. Bonus points for identifying some of the diagnostic sounds in this one that could only be heard only in this region of Australia! 🔍 #wildoz #fieldrecording #soundscape #bioacoustics 36215
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 17/03/2026And this seems to be a bad example of a 'stable volume' default on video uploads in Bluesky ie. you can hear the ambient background sound pulsing louder/quieter as the sound levels are automatically adjusted. On Youtube this can be turned off - I can't see a way to do anything about it here though. 051
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 17/03/2026Sounding somewhere between a deranged cat and a newborn baby, the calls of the Green Catbird are one of Australia's weirdest bird sounds! Recorded in Bunya Mountains NP, Queensland. #wildoz #fieldrecording #sounds 23612
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 13/03/2026Yes, I start recording when I set up the rig & stop when I come back to collect it. I usually have a quick scan of the recordings when in the field & review them more carefully to extract sounds of interest when back in the office. I generally don't erase anything, and keep all the original files. 111
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 11/03/2026A little Rhinoceros Beetle (Dasygnathus trituberculatus) protesting being in the spotlight! Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 12/10/2025One of Australia's unique avian voices - the song of a male Brown Songlark. Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 27/08/2025One of Australia’s silliest bird sounds – the calls of the Wompoo Fruit Dove. Despite the lack of vocal grace, they are still one of the world's most beautiful pigeons! In this sample a group of Wompoo Fruit Doves were having strange gargling conversations while tucking into some rainforest fruit. 57519
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 26/08/2025Predawn song of a Pied Butcherbird in early spring. Before sunrise at this time of year the song of butcherbirds (and Australian Magpies) is often made up of simpler, more repetitive phrases than the typical full song heard later in the morning - but it's still sublime! #wildoz 54314
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 24/08/2025I had a Little Wattlebird for an alarm clock for a season or two right outside my bedroom window, it's mechanical discordant song is still etched in my brain! Channel-billed Cuckoo has to be up there too with the most unloved alarm clock birds. 040
Marc Anderson @wildambience.bsky.social · 24/08/2025As spring approaches, many Australian birds will be ramping up their songs! Over the next month or so on my Youtube channel (www.youtube.com/wildambience), I’ll feature a bunch of beautiful, unusual, iconic or otherwise interesting Australian bird sounds. #wildiz #birds 45515
