Lancer Tactics is looking for a multiplayer programmer! lancertactics.com/hiring-multi... If you've been through the rodeo of pressing the "enable multiplayer" checkbox for a Godot game, we'd love to hear from you!

My godette arrived! I love her!! She's definitely got less of that baseball affordance compared to the original but she's much more stylish. #godot

hotfix hotfix getcher hotfixes here wick.itch.io/lancer-tacti... *Not* addressed here is the somewhat concerning report that on certain graphics cards the game does this. I'm so tired. Godot I know it's not your fault but I hate having to think about nvidia's latest graphics driver updates

We need some help doing technical writing/editing for Lancer Tactics' rules text! Inline glossary tagging, styling, & adapting wording when it doesn't make sense in a video game context. ~40 hours of contract work staring at google sheets; job posting is here: lancertactics.com/hiring-techn...

We just had our first malicious upload to Lancer Tactics' mod.io directory! Somebody AI-vibe-coded a mockup of a companion editor app & provided an evil installer URL file. It's been removed, but stay on your toes. This shit looks plausible at first glance (but hilariously wrong in the details)

Godot 4.7 added visual control offsets which makes animating UI 1000x easier, so I spent the evening sprinkling it in on various screens.

Yeah, .wav files... unfortunately this also doesn't work & all my wav files still end up in the export, inexplicably. I confirmed it's them by unpacking the pck and saw them all listed.

Any #godot brained folks able to help me with this? We have audio assets in the project that get compiled to FMOD banks, so don't need to be exported. However, I've tried every method of excluding them to no avail (gdignore, export modes) and nothing works besides deleting the folder before export.

It's been three years since the three-years-of-funding Kickstarter campaign for Lancer Tactics completed. Time for a report card! www.kickstarter.com/projects/wic... Additionally, the Module Editor is live. Lancer Tactics is now equipped with essentially a miniature visual novel editor.

Oop, didn't manage this week. Writing a report card for a 3-year project was more emotionally taxing than we were expecting & need a bit more time. However, we'll also be doing a livestream celebration/Kickstarter phase wrapup for Lancer Tactics! April 15, 3-5 PST :: www.youtube.com/live/30huanm...

Today is trans day of visibility 🏳️‍⚧️ but more immediately for me it's also the 3-year anniversary of Lancer Tactics' Kickstarter campaign. Writing up a larger retrospective for the next backer post, but it's cool to see how far we've come since then.

imo it's wild that this basic layout for hasn't changed since godot 2.0; mode buttons up top, scene tabs right below it, and a vertical list of scripts "within" all that. I really think it could use a fundamental experienced UX rethink

here's what I mean; the script "mode" at the top is actually the top-level organization while editing scripts, so it's strange that there's such a strong organizational visual element of the scene tab between that and what you're working with.

I understand why it exists, but getting this notification from Kickstarter always makes me *so* mad. I'm literally already writing the update and you're out there obnoxiously tapping on the glass of my aquarium.

i have such a love/hate with #godot. I'm so glad it exists and I know other engines have problems too but I stg there's always some cursed problem that crops up right as I'm trying to release. This morning I found that our portraits are broken post-4.6 upgrade but only for the exported build.

holy shit
After 48 hours of torture, Dr. Christie wrote a forced confession — “the best thing I ever wrote,” he later told the BBC, noting that he had made sure the confession included “all my recommendations to the African National Congress” about the best way to sabotage Koeberg and other facilities.“And, gloriously, the judge read it out in court,” Dr. Christie added. “So my recommendations went from the judge’s mouth” straight to the A.N.C.

Thinking about the input flow for Lancer Tactics; would be interested in hearing thoughts about this from anyone who's played the early access builds:
Polling the room:
I have the player phase in pieces right now from the click-around-to-inspect change and am thinking about input flow. The current system is:
- click action button, then click target to confirm // right click to cancel.
I'm considering the model:
- click action button, then right click target to confirm. Left clicking opens up an inspect window (matching what happens when you left click before picking an action). To cancel, you'll have to hit escape or click the cancel button.

Are people using the right click to cancel frequently? Would replacing that with hitting Esc be worth easier inspection?

Dev anecdote: I've got this prototype of a new color picker in a side-branch, and pilots saved with it are put into a slightly new incompatible format. When we switched back to the main branch, the test pilot we used could no longer be loaded by the game.

Modding
Re: modding: so, games made in Godot are extremely easy to decompile and edit, no API required. The support that we'll (eventually, someday) be adding are like loaders/unloaders and tooling to make limited mods without having to do that step (e.g. custom pilot/mech art). I am very confident that as soon as somebody motivated gets set up to do so they will, whether we've added support or not.

LT-to-tabletop pipeline & learning curve
Re: using LT as a jump-off point to join tabletop: yes, it's really important to me that people will be able to go through this pipeline! The diversity of what people are doing table-to-table is truly wild so there's always going to be an adjustment/learning period for folks.

The best we can do is identify and limit specific common tripping points. This is why I'm much more conservative about making PC-side changes (you want to have your builds work no matter where you go) and why we're not using the rebake grunts.

NPC stats and specific abilities are already more variable from the player POV so I don't expect will be outside the normal learning curve for any table switch, but we'll of course will keep an eye on it.

3rd party fixes
Re: other modules on the table: yes actually! The way I've already implemented escort/extraction was taken pretty directly from Enhanced Combat's MCE and payload rules because they're so much more clear and robust than core.

And in this update I added the Dazed keyword from Prototype Pattern Groups because we were having trouble with new players breezing through Brace's description and then being confused why they only had one action the next turn. Making it a status helps communicate what's going on with brevity and tooltips.

Generally, if picking up a bit of third party design work will slot cleanly in, solve a problem we're having, and doesn't involve a noticeable increase in scope, I see no reason to not pick it up.

(By Enhanced Combat "objective types", do you mean bonus objectives? Or the additional sitreps? I would honestly absolutely love to do both at some point because they're great but are also scope increases so can't afford to in the current dev phase. Plus I'd need to talk to Ralf about it. The EC versions of base sitreps are functionally the same as core though yeah?)

Community debate
Re: community discussion: I must admit I didn't expect how divisive a topic this would be when started moving in this direction. 😓 I've since learned there's a lot of back and forth there about the designs, but freezing and being afraid to make any design decision because people are split on something will end up with a worse game (see: Darkest Dungeon corpses).

So: I'm doing my best to listen to folks (esp KS backers) with strong opinions, but I've got a lot of game to program so need actionable things to sink my teeth into (which is why I keep asking for specifics, sorry).

Recharge
Re: recharges: oh? That's surprising for me to hear. I haven't done a thorough side-by-side of all the optionals, but in implementing the base kits I typically saw the rebake drop the recharge tag for things that should be more consistent (aegis defense net, hive razor swarm), or added additional "when X happens, recharge Y" triggers specifically to help address that exact problem in the CRB (cataphract impale, eng target designator, pyro explosive jet). Are there specific class/systems that you have in mind here?

The closest issue in the rebake that I can think of on this front is that the new Bombard plays games with making its gun loading under certain situations, but due to the difficulty in having the AI make those judgement calls and adding support for a sometimes-Loading weapon I'm likely to stick closer to the CRB for that.
