As this horrific El Niño continues to grow I think a lot about the Galapagos marine iguanas. They eat only one specific algae and warming waters kill off a lot of it. The iguanas will eat other algae out of desperation but can’t digest it, so they die of starvation with full stomachs.

While we were in Cali, a contractor was doing work at the house. The cement truck took down a wire crossing the driveway. He thought it was cable, so he contacted Comcast to submit a damage complaint and a ticket was opened. Great. Proactive. Turns out it was an old phone line not in use anymore.

Decided to go into the office tomorrow. It’s been over three weeks so I should probably visit my stuff. Life has been nudging me towards retirement lately. It’s both exciting and surprisingly terrifying. I’m hoping to last until the end of 2027 for meaningless reasons, but time will tell.

My mother knew how to stretch a grocery dollar. She would make a roast pork and depending how much juice was left (so much dry meat) she would combine it with minute rice or add some unflavored gelatin to it and chill. It’s called graisse du rôti and she would spread it on bread for breakfast.
